   About The Private Sea
The Private Sea is no more, but for booking, listening, etc. take a look at these other bands/projects from Private Sea members:

The New Heaven and The New Earth: Roger's new project. The first release, a split cassette from Edible Onion's Archaic Fetishism series, is available today.

Cheap Dinosaurs: Dino continues his work in the weird, wonderful world of chiptunes.

Chemistry Music: Jay the Audiophile contributes his beats and production as a member of this amazing hip-hop group.

Joe is working once again with Mike Kappler and Matt Taylor, who were all members of Teh Miv. There is no myspace yet but a link will be posted as soon as one is available.

More info as it comes.

'The Private Sea places explosive, droney guitars, swirling male/female vocal harmonies, delicate electric piano, and a solid rhythm section into a concise musical package. The result is reminiscent of some of the best of neo-psychedelia, classic punk and shoegaze without the excesses of those genres. Though The Private Sea takes some influence from The Zombies, X, or My Bloody Valentine, it is difficult to trace their sound back to one or two definitive sources. In August of 2007, The Private Sea self-released their debut full length "Prelude," a summation of all the sounds, songs, and ideas the band has been cultivating from inception up to that point. The Private Sea has been touring throughout much of the US in support of the record ever since, and recently began work on new material.

Press:

"Philadelphia, PA's the Private Sea offer up a great collection of songs on 'Prelude'. Sounding like a combination of influences from British Sea Power and early Radiohead to Galaxie 500 and the Velvet Underground; the Private Sea pulls off guy/girl harmonies with pop/rock (with an indie flare) that really catches your ear. Songs like 'Judas Kisses' show them at their best, with 'Running' and 'Cy Twombly' being the other highlights. The sound projected on 'Prelude' is really rarely heard very often anymore. Parts of 'Cy Twombly' for instance remind me a lot of the production and power of Jeff Buckley's 'Grace'. With most bands that would be thrown into the same genre as The Private Sea, it's nice to hear some bands out there that are pushing away from the norms of sounding like a carbon copy of a New Order, Dinosaur Jr, or Pixies album that defined music for them when they were in college. " - N-A Magazine

"The Private Sea has been one of my absolute favorite local bands for a few years now, and they just set the bar even higher for themselves with this, their first album." - Centerfuse.net on "Prelude"

"Philadelphia five-piece The Private Sea injects detectable longing in well-pitched hooks, handing their songs over to the right anthem-making risks—brooding textures, teasing swells, magnetic harmonies and a batch of influences ranging from Spiritualized to The Jesus & Mary Chain." - The Independent Weekly, Chapel Hill

"The Philly quintet wafts through lush, swirling indie rock that's psychedelic without being retro. Thats a feat in itself." -Isthmus, Madison, WI

"Prelude leaps into shining, swooning pop hooks, but a slyly applied hint of psychedelic detachment twirls about in the not-too distant background." - The Onion

Greetings
Do excuse the 'spam', but I have three new songs up on the page, each from a different upcoming album.

One from the sleepers / hellmouth split, which will be out in the next few weeks on cassette from Marygarden Tapes.

One from the first full length Sleepers album (along with the other two 'untitled' songs), also coming out on Marygarden, but on CD.

One from the collaboration album between Sleepers and Jason "EVIL" Covelli, with all words and voice by Jason, and all sounds and editing from myself.

I have been working endlessly on new material for Sleepers, and I am very excited for the progression of this project. I believe it may have even taken over Bicycle Sighs' place as my 'main' project. A lot of the albums listed on the page are still seeking homes, but I do believe I will be able to maintain a solid and consistent output, as Sleepers has unlocked something deep inside of my mind.

I am, as always, still seeking out new collaborators, in aural, literary, and visual additions.
