Apocalyptic wastelands, the Nigerian oil crisis, medieval throne usurpations and the perfect poker hand… inspiration for a great song can come from the strangest places.
So it is for The Private Side, possibly Southern England’s most exciting new band and one whom Total Guitar magazine describes as sounding ‘like Johnny Cash sodomising Queen in a Cuban barrio…’
Indie, rock, alt, pop, reggae; pigeon-hole them if you dare, but never deny the desire of these four school friends to create scintillating, soaring and thought-provoking tunes.
In the tradition of great bands working quickly, the Private Side formed in early August 2008 and played their first gig 10 days later. The camp bombast of frontman Alex Crutcher immediately vitalised the band’s penchant for experimentation; his vital stage presence, punctuated with punchy trumpet breaks, zipping together flashes of 80s hard rock, choppy Latin rhythms, lilting ballads and fiery acoustic folk.
Guitarist Sebastian Fox’s whiskey-and-tobacco drawl provides the perfect foil for Crutcher’s inimitable vocal style on tracks like the Morricone-inspired ‘The West Has Been Won’, while sibling rhythm section Nick and Tom Cracknell provide rolling bass lines and hearty tom-inflected beats underneath.
The band convened at Toybox Studios in Bristol in early 2009 to cut their first, self-titled EP. Two months later they sold out Shoreditch’s trendy 93 Feet East (on a Monday night) and were personally approached by one of the judges of the national Live & Unsigned UK Competition and offered a management deal on the spot.
The Private Side define the meaning of a truly eclectic band. Innovation, artistic integrity and a resolute desire to affect people through music brims from the band’s core. It is not a matter of if, but when they will arrive…
Their debut release, The Private Side EP is available to download now on all good digital platforms including iTunes.

Described as: 'like Soulfly if Trent Reznor were part of the band,' their debut album "There's No Profit in Truth", album mixes the pent up frustration of acts such as Rage Against The Machine with the raging, highly charged riffs of classic Machine Head. Good, honest, politically aware and highly charged Metal at its best...
