Faint echoes of war in the distance a soldier’s dream. defend defend fight fight I am an American. Inhale truth and exhale fear, I will not be taken I will march on. Tree limb breaks breathing slower. Charlie Bravo One two Delta to Base. What’s your marker? I'll make Dad proud, I am an American. Up is down I hear them close. Don’t breathe don't breathe STOP BREATHING. I see them. 12 no 14. Flank on the left I’ll make my family proud I am an American. Overhead hawks circle the destruction of fear love and envy. They died so they could be remembered I will be remembered I will make my neighborhood proud I am an American. Shells fall smoke settles only 3 left. Thin line that goes from the first tree to the second one. Tic tock tic tock. Trip. Noise. Ears are ringing. Only 2 left. One blonde and one has black hair. He’s wearing a necklace; it has a picture in it of his little boy. Jump up Noise chaos and one is left. I fire. It jams. I throw it down I run. I might die. i will die for my country and oh will my state be proud I am an American. Breathing down my neck intensity rises and sweat beads down my back. Knife. Struggle. Tears. Screams. Begging. I skinned my left knee skateboarding at my uncle’s house when I was 12. My mom takes so many pictures before leaving for prom. Oh how my heart was broken when she left me for him. My mustang never looked so good driving home from graduation parties. My eyes shut and I breathe out I die. Oh how I made my country proud. I was an American.
