The Prosoulytes

Bio:

The Prosoulytes is the fruit of a chance encounter between two individuals with a thirst for soul. Not necessarily soul as in soul music, but rather soul as a medium to create music that comes from the heart.

Percussionist/keyboard player Moyo was born and raised in Paris, where he got his training as a classical/modern classical percussionist and drummer. His teenage years were spent trying to find his own way through his parents collection of classical and jazz records while nurturing his love for hiphop and electronic music. At the age of 20, Moyo headed for Geneva, Switzerland, in order to complete his studies of concertist at the professional conservatory of music.

It is there that he eventually met Breakplus, a young and hungry deejay, beatmaker and record collector native from the city of Calvin. They started making music together out of fun and a common love for what is sweet but still bangs. It’s only later that they realized that how much Moyo needed Breakplus’s raw chops and dirty samples, and how much Breakplus needed Moyo’s funky chords and deeply soulful undertones.

The duo proceeded to record their first songs – and both of them always knew that it would be a tough ordeal, as neither would settle for anything else than the perfect sound. With no money in their pockets and limited equipment, they set out to record all the instruments and vocals they needed to bring their music to life.

Personal circumstances and a fading genevan music scene have pushed The Prosoulytes to get out of Switzerland and meet their individual destinies across Europe. Moyo lived in Copenhagen before finally returning to Paris while Breakplus went on to live his long lasting dream of moving to London. Even with distance separating them, The Prosoulytes have kept a strong relationship, forged by numerous music sessions: from recording Fender Rhodes in an attic in Geneva, to tweaking a Moog in a London squat, from conducting of a horn section in a Copenhagen studio, to editing Swedish vocals in a Paris flat – while not forgetting an infamous deejay gig where the turntables were way too close to the beer tap!

This labour of love resulted in a four track EP packed full of flavour with interventions from artists met across Europe. Although The Prosoulytes are very proud to bring you their “Springtime EP”, they are working very hard on the next projects and will tell anyone who asks that this is only the beginning…
