It was just another day of sleeping late and skipping classes when it happened; first one tower, then the other, and everything had changed. The world was not so safe; the kingdom was not so strong. We all joined the suited men in song and blessed our crusaders—“flush him out, string him up, make him pay.” But we didn’t find him, and soon the reasons became blurred. Emotions settled with the debris, deception fouled the air, and now the crusade was not so holy. History repeated itself. “What good fortune for those in power that people do not think,” said an old painter from Austria. Some of us took part in a revolution, each in our own way—the three of us followed the sound of the music. It led us to the soapbox. We belonged there; we had a story to tell. We took on many names, but eventually found the right one. It was given to the main character of our story long ago, a nickname birthed by youth and insanity, ever appropriate to both the artist and the band. That name was The Psycho Kid.

Only a few will remember Tonik, that dive bar in Forest Park, Illinois, where The Psycho Kid played for the first time, and where Glenn Brandt (singer/guitarist) jumped off the counter around the stage and knocked over his amp during a song. A few more will remember the other dive bars in Chicagoland, like The Mutiny, which was known to rain ceiling tiles on occasion, and where Julia Zap (singer/bassist) ran off-stage and moshed with the audience during a song. And perhaps just as many will remember the few all ages venues, like The Orphanage, where any kind of music could be heard, and where everyone hula-hooped, even to Chris Morrow's (drummer) insane beats.
The Psycho Kid is an original punk band. Since 2005, they have worked the underground circuit in their hometown of Chicago and toured the mid-west USA. In 2009, their tour expanded to the rest of the US, with sights set on the rest of the world. The Psycho Kid has played alongside underground favorites such as Michigan City Vandals, Rule 22 (Chicago), Adams Dagger (LA), and Mike Got Spiked (Dublin).
In 2008, The Psycho Kid headed to the studio to record their first album, and teamed up with engineer/producer Larry Kriz (Auditory Hallucination/Lifelike Violence). The band had previously recorded a couple demos with Kriz, but now wanted to produce something of quality. In 2009, they released the album "Hypocrite Land" on Brandt's label, Logan Ave Records. The album features 13 of the many songs circulated during live shows.
Currently, the band is developing material for their next album, and gearing up for more shows on the 2009-2010 "Won't Blow Your Load" US Tour. Their mission has always been the same: play music, play it well, make them grit teeth, make them dance. The last verse of their titular song sums up The Psycho Kid's attitude: "I’ll dye my hair, and breathe this air, ‘cause I don’t give a shit about what you think of me. And you can try to live that lie, but the life for me is the life of The Psycho Kid." Standby for more punk rock.
