A pub is much more than a bar. It is a place for members of a community to gather, spread news and stories, leave their cares at the door and have fun. The Pub Uglies bring this ethic to their music and live performances. Their brand of high-energy, up-tempo Irish folk music combined with a boisterous stage presence that encourages participation from the crowd is sure to get any pub goers singing, clapping, dancing, laughing, and of course, drinking.
The Pub Uglies formed in Winter of 2004. Each member hailing from a punk rock background—including such local groups as The Negative Vibe Merchants, Broken, and The Muckers—the Pub Uglies decided to combine the energy of their punk roots with their longtime love of tradition Irish folk music. The result is a collection of drinking songs, rebel tunes, and jigs and reels that have a contemporary feel while still staying true to the tradition from which the songs originated.
