Lords of Chaos and Destruction The Puppeteers of Hatred terrorised the Wellington live scene for a year and a half, specialising in smash & grab-style performances of their unique brand of thrashy seventies stoner metal that left audiences in a state of shock and awe.
Helga Svengali (aka Famine - Vocals and Bass), Klaus Von Fury (aka Pestilence - Guitar and BVs) and Ringo Swastika (aka War - Drums) first hit the stage in 2004's winter of discontent, way back when you could still smoke in pubs, Ahmed Zaoui was still incarcerated and Dimebag Darrell was still alive. From introducing metal anthems such as "Addicted to Suicide", "The Execution Will Come" and "Guillotine on Parade", there seemed to be no stopping the onslaught of The Puppeteers - they went on to record and release their acclaimed debut album "Kill and be Killed" in October.
The runaway train of The Puppeteers of Hatred was derailed somewhat when Ringo Swastika (aka War)'s vacation to faraway lands of mystery left Helga and Klaus in a bit of a bind, with two gigs booked, a rabid fan base to placate and no sign of the drummer whatsoever... fortunately help was at hand with the assistance of Lars de de Doldrums (aka War) for the "Too Trashed" compilation release party at Bodega in December and Dr Ziegfreid Apocalypse (aka War) for a most triumphant show at Valve.
However, the Wellington stoner-thrash-metal scene received a fatal blow in January of 2006 however with the bloody implosion of the genre's finest exponents, The Puppeteers of Hatred. Helga Svengali left the wind-battered environs of Wellington for the sunnier climes of Melbourne, Australia.
Understanding the futility of attempting to continue the metal madness without vocalist and founding member Helga, the remaining members unanimously decided to end their pathetic existences and free the scene for the next generation of merciless slaying.
Many thanks to all the fans, the people who bought the album, the bands who shared the stage, the people who participated in the blood orgies and everybody else who didn't deserve to die in indescribable pain because they suck.
