Once upon a time, there was a band called The Purple Lords of the Sonic Church that left a couple of people's ears bleeding after a unique gig in a lesbian bar hotter than the Arizona desert. They were covering Yesterday's number, Connection (the one on Between the buttons), So you want to be a rock'n'roll star, It's a long way to the top if you want to rock'n'roll, and many more... and then came tunes of their own, as a trio. The sold-out proof of that era is the 7 tracks Ep "Join the Sonic Church". Eager to move on and to come closer to the ideal rock expression with two guitars, the trio turned into a quartet when Ben and Tibo came into the picture, and as the band was growin up, the name was shortening down to The Purple Lords. After some gigs and another Ep, "The Laziness and Pride Ep", here's mark III, with Frank taking over the drums... And that was a pretty short-lived line-up, since Matthieu came back home in the house of the Lords where he belonged in the very beginning, following Ben's departure of the band. But, people come, people go, and Matthieu was then called somewhere else after two years of concerts, rehearsals and the conception of the 2007 Ep "The Purple Lords jump the next train". So, in december 2008, Olivier took charge of the bass and a long time desire for horns was finally materialized with the help of Maxime, a saxophone player.
From the conception on the Shim Sham's balcony in New Orleans, the idea has remained the same:
Playing a music that would embody all their fantasies and evoke at the same time Steve Mc Queen's blue eyes through his Ford Mustang's windshield, Brian Jones' hair moves when he played Ruby Tuesday on Ed Sullivan, Jane Birkin's pout bathing in the sun in Jacques Deray's La Piscine, Jack Kerouac's fantasmatic wanderings through the US, and Robert Mitchum's tattoed fists. Love and Hate, that's all about it. And that Frankensteinly shaped music will be labelled "electric dandy rock'n'roll".
