Roundpeak style old time music, Deep South old time, country blues, hokum, maritime music, a dash of Cape Breton and a pinch of archaic early country.
Sounds Like
Unashamed string band music that Nashville and your preacher warned you about. If you the listener would like to see what Asheville locals have to say about us, we are featured in the MountainXpress review of three local Asheville bands for Feb. 1, 2008. Comments and reviews can be seen at mountainx.com.
We are named after Edward Teach's (aka Blackbeard) commandeered pirate ship that wreaked havoc and mayhem along the South Carolina and Virginia coasts during the golden age of piracy before being scuttled in the secluded inlet off the North Carolina coast known as Teach's Hole. We are a North Carolina band who raises the dram glass to natives such as Charlie Poole, Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Etta Baker, Tommy Jerrell, Benton Flippen, Frank Profitt and others who created the "Carolina Sound" that to this day defines North Carolina string band music. The modern commercial Velveeta Nashville sound (late 20th century) does not find its way into our music. We also perfrom regional string band music from the Southeast such as Gid Tanner, Howard Armstrong, Jimmie Rogers, The Kessinger Brothers, The Stripling Brothers, The Mississippi Sheiks, Uncle Dave Macon, The Balfa Brothers, Sam McGhee (from sunny Tennessee), Dock Boggs, Ralph Blizzard along with a few hokum and maritime tunes are our favorite sources of inspiration. As a fourtet, we all play multiple instruments and travel light. Dances, weddings, festivals, clubs, Shriner conventions and get out of jail parties are our forte. We have CDs for sale of our music at our shows and we love to follow you home in your CD player.
If you fill a glass with a fuzzy baby bunny, yer bound to smell suntin' funny if ya squarsh'n ya smash his body inta the glass yer bound t'make baby bunny honey.
