Young sings, plays electric guitar and bare picks a 12-string acoustic guitar tuned down two whole steps to a C. He prefers the tone of bare skin on steel. Young writes TQYB’s songs. The Huntington, NY, native has performed with numerous Colorado acts, including The Flood, Meadowlark Jivin’ and the Liz Barnez Band.
Shawn Riley: bass guitar
Riley grew up on Colorado’s Western Slope and is a veteran of the Denver music scene. He has performed with numerous acts, most recently Five Sided Mind, Under Cover and Dimestore Philosophers. He first joined forces with cousin Conant and Young in Fort Collins when they played in The Flood. Riley provides backup vocals in TQYB. He also makes a powerful pot of coffee.
Keith Conant: drums
Conant has many talents, not least his ability to recall small things from years ago that others had not thought about even at the time, and the gift of mimicry, which he invokes to recreate great moments in '80s pop, but most of all, for these purposes, his drumming. The Traverse City, Mich., native has performed with many Colorado bands, including Gumbo, The Flood, Concentrated Punch and Dimestore Philosophers. He has also lived in Austin, where he soaked up the sun-cooked, blues-infused attitude of the Hill Country music scene.

THE QUENTIN YOUNG BAND
HISTORY
The Quentin Young Band formed in the summer of 2008 in the garage behind guitarist and songwriter Quentin Young’s Denver home. Keith Conant was on electric guitar, Shawn Riley was on bass, and there was a drummer who soon was no longer around. Conant moved to drums, where he continues to dwell.
Young stuck to the bare-picked acoustic 12-string guitar in the band’s first gigs. Now he incorporates electric guitar in the set, and the band’s show has evolved toward a punchy sound.
Rock. Folk. Indie. Poetry and gibberish. All that.
The band took a break from live performances, though not from rehearsals, in April 2009, when production on a new album began in earnest. The album will be released soon, and the band plans to get back to the stage this fall.

NEW TRACKS ALMOST SET TO DROP
Songs about war. Songs about love. Fascination. Infatuation. Saying goodbye and crashing the scene. Expanding minds in Montparnasse. Loosening license and a little thing about Pedro, the medal aspirant. These are due out soon. Recorded in Missa Studios (Young's basement), they are part of the new, tentatively titled, “Passion of the loose cannon.” (A survey on the name’s appeal drew both scorn and delight. Controversy, good.) Recording’s almost done, mastering’s soon to come, and the band’s planning to offer free downloads. (What else may the band offer free – you tell us. What may you offer the band? Let’s make a deal.)
This follows Young’s previous full-length release, the searching “Do-si-do for your girl,” and his earlier “High Stakes Man Going Down,” featuring the title song, a staple of the live show, and the ballad “Huddie Ledbetter Done Been Here and Gone.”
