The Rain Band were a Manchester three-piece, criminally ignored by the elitist English press in favour of overhyped American garage rock bands.
Their lead singer, Richard Nancollis, played it once before as the front man for Sussed, a shoddy Oasis knockoff. The short-lived Manchester band released a couple of singles before Be Here Now effectively dropped the curtain on the Britpop era.
The self-titled debut album by The Rain Band from 2003 were influenced by New Order synth lines rub shoulders with the brooding menace of Honey's Dead-era Jesus and Mary Chain. The lush romanticism of Echo and the Bunnymen meets the melodramatic flair of Mansun.
Hope someday they´ll have their comeback 2nd album and get what they really deserve!!!

NEWS!!!
The guys have all gone their separate ways now.
Richard actually gets married in August and is involved in caring / teaching of children with learning difficulties.
Mark is now making short films at University and actually won a National award in the last few months. He is also getting married in March.
Steve has moved from the Manchester area and is still at University in the East Midlands.
Before they split The Rain Band second album was recorded up to a fairly high demo standard, but with no real drums...far stronger prospect and more complete album, very dark very broody but ultimately uplifting. They took their groove orientated influences from the likes of Stone Roses / Depeche Mode / Can / New Order / Neu / Cabaret Voltaire / Gang of Four / Acid House / Massive Attack / 80s electronica and really progressed its sound further. In all they were working with in excess of twenty songs and there were absolutely loads of rejected or sidelined songs... some of which were simply too pop for the Rain Band but essentially genius.
Maybe someday Album 2 elevated this band onto a greater platform.
