The Rainbow in Fitzroy is OPEN AGAIN providing Melbournians, and those visiting Melbourne from afar, with the very best in Australian Jazz and Blues.
Two brothers, Christopher and Cameron Strachan, have reopened The world renowned Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy to ensure the Melbourne bar does not disappear after a 130 year history. That’s right – 130 years old!!
The venue, which opened in 1868, has been an essential part of the Fitzroy live music scene and has played host to big-name bands such as Eric Burdon, The Dandy Warhols, Paul Williamson's Hammond Combo, and Tim Rogers.
"We're proud to be the ones who have taken over the management of the old girl and given her a face-lift so this type of live music can continue to have a home", says part owner Christopher Strachan.
Although the pub has been open again since early January, The official re-launch of live Jazz & Blues at The Rainbow was held on Sat March 1st, 2008 and was enjoyed by locals, The Rainbow Hotels' old regulars, and newcomers alike.
The bands that heralded in the new era were: The Young Guns of Blues, The Detonators, Fireside Bellows, the legendary Dutch Tilders, and The Chris Mawer Band.
The Rainbow Hotel provides a relaxed yet hip 360 degree bar area, live bands, pool room, jukebox, upstairs function areas, and a massive palm filled BEERGARDEN with an OUTDOOR POOL TABLE.
"The kitchen is now up and running so you'll be able to come in for a great meal, some great live music from one of our many and always changing bands, a game of pool, and the best of local Australian and international beers, spirits, wines, and cocktails etc, oh and not to mention the great service you'll get from my brother Christopher and I from the moment you waltz in the door to the moment you waltz out" says part-owner Cameron Strachan.
So basically The Rainbow Hotel is the place to be for all your chilling out and catching up with friends needs.
