’The cycle has gone around again, people want warehouses again’
’The Warehouse’ has been in the making for just under 12 months. Bit by bit the pieces of the jigsaw are fitting.
In May 07 The Warehouse was a complete shell. There was a massive hole in the ground and unwelcome bouts of drain water spraying through the man hole.
It opened it’s doors to a BELOW event. Over a thousand people turned out to see Mark Henning. The open space proved great acoustics for The Function One system. The atmosphere was great but the twenty port a loos and lack of a second room was evident. It was back to the drawing board.
The doors remained closed until a plan was unveiled. For the venue to work there was some way to go
The floor was battered and uneven. It made sense to build the second room, bar and cellar store/office whereever the floor was uneven. It worked and a soundproofed second room gave ’The Warehouse’ another dimension. The fitted bar was puposley built larger than average to ensure a smooth flow.
The floor was levelled and a two temporary trailor toilets brought into replace everybody’s favourite ’The Portaloos’
The trailors went outside in the courtyard. The courtyard always had oodles of character running underneath a railway arch. The dream was to turn it into a tropical beach and for one night only that dream became reality! BIGGER THAN BARRY beach party goes down in history! It was amazing. There would of been more but with the courtyard so exposed to the weather the beach turned to Blackpool more than the Caribean we had wanted.
A retractable roof was needed to keep you dry in the winter months and the monsoon days! (In the making www.myspace.com/thebeachbirmingham)
The launch for The Beach will be June 08
The Warehouse reopend it’s doors to BELOW IBIZA GATHERING - The work paid off the atmosphere was fucking electric and there were many faces from that little isle. The Warehouse - still raw had potential. But it wasnt quite there yet.
After a sell out NYE with Jamie Jones the doors closed again and plans were made to build a real toilet block! No portaloos, no trailors, a proper toilet block!
Theres some exciting acts coming along, Louie Vega, Goldie, Valve Soundsystem, Jamie Jones, Utah Saints, Nikky Holloway, Jon Da Silva, Pete Gooding, Twisted Individual and great brands Fuel, Below, Flylife, Rockfall, Urband Disturbance, Secret Wars and Trigger and the mighty Drop Beats Not Bombs. The Warehouse is quickly establishing itself.
The Warehouse is a ongoing project but look out for the official launch in June 08.
