The swinging sound of Britain, circa 1960-1964: twanging instrumentals and Big Beat vocalising like the almighty Snobs, who did the original "Buckleshoe Stomp", covered by our lads on an obscure Continental single a few years back.
If you like modern hepcats like The Kaisers, Masonics, Neatbeats and Waistcoats, mining some of the very same mania, you'll flip too for The Rapiers.
Based in and around the gritty North London hamlets of Enfield and Edmonton, The Rapiers reflect all that is best, inspiring and magnificent about the early '60s British rock 'n' roll sound of Cliff Richard and The Shadows, Johnny Kidd and The Pirates, Fentones, Cougars (whose "Saturday Night at the Duckpond" they've made a signature tune) and other kewl kats.
Listen to these lads! On record or on stage, Colin, John, Nathan and Neil instantly transport you to a time and place when red Fender guitars, Meazzi echo and Vox amps ruled the earth. Their sound is clean and fierce, their look clean and immaculate—from their sharp suits down to their winkle-picker footware. Compromise isn't in their vocabulary.
While their legend has grown far and wide because they can turn on the Shadows '61 charm (for proof watch their wicked version of "Gonzales" at left), they can switch pop gears at will and kick-out spot-on Merseybeat on stage, especially awesome takes on chestnuts like "Lies" (Remo Four), "Hippy Hippy Shake" (Swinging Blue Jeans via Chan Romero) and "I'll Never Get Over You" (Johnny Kidd).
Approaching their 25th year as a rock 'n' roll concern, The Rapiers are now on tour across England, performing solo engagements and supporting '60s BritRock legends like John Leyton, Jet Harris and Mike Berry. See them and be dazzled!
Thanks again chaps for the wonderful surprise telegram presented to us by your friend and ours, Harry Prytherch of the Remo Four. Means a lot to know we have support from such friends and fellow beatmakers.
Gentlemen of The Rapiers, we received your telegram as we took the stage yesterday afternoon at Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton. A delightful tonic as we were still a little jaded having come back from The Amersham Rock'n'Roll Club earlier that morning, what a great place and a fab crew!!!!! Many thanks for your kind words and the best of British luck to you all. Bob.
