All those great Folk and Trad musicians over the years without whom we wouldnt be in any positon to be playing the songs we are today. The Clancys, The Dubliners, Planxty, The Bothy Band, Sweeny's Men, The Pogues, Moving Hearts, Solas, Four men and a Dog, Luke Kelly, Christy Moore, probably a dozen more that dont spring to mind right now! Loads of individual influences from outside the Irish sphere from Steve Earle to the Beatles-Good Music essentially!
The Rapparees are a five piece Folk outfit based in Belfast and are about as exciting an act as you're likely to encounter on the Folk/Trad circuit at the moment. Having recently completed their debut studio album Clarity, the lads have been busy getting their music out and have been described by Irish Music Magazine as 'one to watch' in 2009. Their exciting mix of contemporary self penned songs and traditional songs and tunes has led to rave reviews along the way being described as, 'a welcome surprise' by Hot Press and Folking.com saying 'Clarity is possessed of a great deal of spirit, and this spirit is enforced and elevated by some terrific playing'. Over the last few years the lads have performed in France, Norway and Scotland and will follow up support gigs with Shane MacGowan and Cara Dillon with a date with the Chieftans in October. They have also played Gig N the Bann, Celtic Fusion and the Ballyshannon Folk Festival. realeditorbest profile toolsrealeditorbest profile toolsrealeditorbest profile tools
