RMS (Martyn Harler) has been playing on the breaks scene since 2005 at various festivals and clubs nights around the country.
In 2005 F(r)action was formed, a club night dedicated solely to the techier side of breakbeat in his home city, Southampton. F(r)action was started with his partner in crime, Jonno Hewitt and the two of them played together as RMS for a number of years; December 2008 saw a fresh project for Jonno with him playing under the name Sliding On The Walls.
F(r)action gained in popularity and held host to some outstanding breaks talent including Far Too Loud, D-Ranged, Affinity, The Breakfastaz, Ephexis, Merka, Bassrock, Anti-Science, Mr No Hands, H0ffman, M0del101, Youthful Implants, AWE Soundsystem, Bubaking, Freshold, Ctrl Z, Ben & Lex, Duel Calibre, Tweak & Bleep, Ken Mac, SaVannah, Lost & Found... the list goes on...
In the past RMS has played in clubs all over the country, at major UK festivals including Waveform and Antiworld. But In late 2008 RMS decided it was time to take the DJing shows to the next level, and after successful collaborations with Adam Goodlet from Ephexis (under the guise 'Peak'), what was born was a concophany of chunky breakbeats, acidic twisted elements and dark psychedelic undertones. After a number of successful gigs, 'RMS & Peak' had established themselves as a credible breakbeat act. This year sees RMS playing at Glade Festival amongst others.
In Late 2008 Dom Smart(one half of Far Too Loud and also known as Neurodriver) and RMS were in a position to combine forces and create a record label to cater for the kind of music they were playing out, and so 'Broken Robot' was born in December 2008. This label had the simple objective: To bring quality music ranging from 4/4 to breakbeat, carrying headier influences - but strictly no cheese!!
With two tunes - New Realm and Ten Dimensions due out in September 2009 on Broken Robot with New Realm being remixed by Hedflux and a remix of Parallax’ Faith due out in July on Retroid , 2009 is certainly a year to watch out for RMS!!
