Bio
From the hearts of two of the best bands to ever play the Southeast comes an all-new duo, The RayBills. But don’t dare think of them as your typical acoustic lounge act. ..“First of all, we’re not going to bore you to death,” laughs Ray Tyson, the “Ray” half of The RayBills. “While we’re happy to serve as background music, it’s our goal to get the audience involved, entertained, and make sure the bartenders, servers and managers are glad we’re there.” ..With two singers, two guitars and a lot of special effects, The RayBills draw from a thick songbook that reaches back more than 50 years, then leaps forward to some of today’s latest hits. Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, Eagle Eye Cherry, Outkast, R.E.M., Incubus, James Taylor, The Eagles, The Beatles, The Doors, The Who – along with several dozen other chart-toppers – are all represented. And you won’t believe how much sound comes from just two people on stage. ..“We’re not just a couple of guys hiding in a dark corner – when we do a show, we’re there to perform,” says Bill Carroll, vocalist and guitarist (and the “Bill” half of The RayBills), who was also once a member of Doubting Thomas, one of the best-known bands in the Southeast. ..A singer/songwriter by trade, vocalist/guitarist/bassist Carroll once scraped the Billboard Top 200 with one of his original tunes, which was also featured on Dick Clark’s long-running “American Bandstand” TV show and MTV. He’s also performed on the same bill with noted artists like Clint Black, Grand Funk Railroad, Hootie & The Blowfish, The Kinks, Live, and David Lee Roth, and recorded with Grammy-winners Jim Brock, Randall Bramlet and Jerry Douglas. ..When he’s not pulling off a tasteful, jazzy riff or blazing rock lead, guitarist and second lead vocalist Ray Tyson is busy rounding out the tight two-part harmonies The RayBills have become notable for. Since turning pro at the age of 17 in his hometown of Dallas, Texas, Tyson has shared the stage with artists such as Joe Walsh, Delbert McClinton, and Mother's Finest, and studied with guitarist/songwriter Chet Catello of Spyro Gyra. He was also once a member of Wild Men from Borneo, one of the most recognizable acts in the South. ..And despite more than 50 years of combined musical experience (and performing for more than a quarter-million people as part of other bands), The RayBills’ mission remains the same: to take things further than just delivering an evening's worth of good music. ..“When you experience a RayBills show,” Ray Tyson promises, “You’re going to get involved. You might even become part of the show!” .. Raybills Artist List (Updated 10/08) ..
