Introduced to America by the wildly popular reality television series, American Idol, the Brittenum Twins gained exposure that any aspiring artist or musician would kill for; according to the Nielsen ratings, the show has been averaging between 31 million to 36 million viewers weekly.
During the audition episodes of the show, it was almost as if each show was dedicated to the outspoken siblings. But, that coveted exposure seemed to turn on them. Creative editing painted them as arrogant, dramatic, and annoying, all to give viewing audiences a spectacle that would keep them coming back for more. And after their image was successfully colored – or shall we say checkered, they vanished. They were just one step from making the top twenty-four, but what happened?
Sure that viewers' curiosity would be piqued, the show’s producers proactively answered that question. Just before the episode that would determine the top 24 contestants that made it through, AND in front of those same 30 something odd million viewers, it was announced that the siblings, which had provided the “entertainment” to that point, had been dismissed due to impending legal woes. Gasp! It’s one thing to deal privately with the consequences of choices that you’ve made -- regardless of what led to you making those choices, but it’s completely another for your issues to be put on blast in front of millions upon millions of American television viewers. The scarlet letter doesn’t have anything on this!
One might wonder why the seemingly sound in mind brothers chose to subject themselves to the possibility of such widespread scrutiny, since there hasn’t been a season of the show where one of the contestants wasn’t “found out.” Chasing dreams at all costs would justify those in the beginning trying to beat the odds; but, six seasons in, it would seem as if the Brittenum twins should have known better. But, there are two sides to every story…
Meet…well, let’s go for the second impression…let us reacquaint you with the Brittenum Twins. There’s much more to Derrell and Terrell Brittenum than can be learned through reality television trickery, and it would be robbery to not give them their say -- and they have MUCH to say.
