How it all started
Well it all started in ayia napa in 2000, I was on holiday with my parents and we was in a music shop i picked up a flyer
for DJ luck & MC neat and put it in my pocket. Then later that night i was in a bar with some freinds that own the bar
and showed them the flyer and told them how Luck & Neat were massive in the uk and how much id love to meet them.
And Harris the owner of the bar's mate greg said to me lets go see them then, at that point i was in shock and wernt
sure if he was jokeing or not. But we waited till 12 then he took me down to rise club were i meet Luck and Neat
in the club but only got a chance to say excuse me mr neat please may i have your autograph and the same to luck but
it stuck in there heads that i said please and thankyou neat said not many people say that they just shove a bit of paper
in his face and say give me ur autograph mate so that was a start.
The next night the Specialists (DJ luck, Mc neat, Mr blakey, Ckp) Were on down at abyss and greg said to me he would
take me down to that club too so i could meet them agen.
That night we went down and fish the owner back then took me down to the front of the stage and we stood there watching
The next thing i new ckp had noticed the little kid in the croud and lifted me up onto the stage and started to dance
so i started then the rest on them noticed and started to pick me up and put me on there sholders and stuff.
Then CKP passed me the mic and said to me tell the croud to make some noise so i shouted down the mic make some noiseee
and the place went crazy people were shouting cheering then ckp said to me what's ur name i said charlie so he said
down the mic make some noise for little charlie (were the name came from) and they went wild agen.
After that night on the way out ckp took my number and said we will be in touch we was like ok herd that one befor thats
the last we will hear from them and the next day flew back to the UK 2 weeks later the phone rang it was ckp
saying we need you to come back to napa and be the specialist mascot the people loved you so we flew back out.
But b4 we went i had a go on my mates decks (I DIDNT EVEN NO WHAT A VYNAL WAS HAHA) and after the mix my mate said
to my dad he's done this befor dad said i swear he hasent he dosent even know what a vynal is my mate said well he musta
been a DJ in his past life then.
Then we left for napa and meet DJ EZ in the airport were dad said to EZ watch out for charlie he's learnin to be a dj
and hopefully will make it big EZ was like yeah ok and left it at that.
when i was back out there i said to the guys im trying to lear how to mix but it wasnt rele
taken notice of i was just the kid that said make some noise on the mic so i carryed on and came back to the UK were
i got some decks and started to learn to mix 2months went by and i had preperd a mix that i was gonna send of to EZ
to try get on the EZ show Kiss 100 (witch was a saturday 7-9 back then) and didnt hear nuffink for a little while so
thought ok that was it its all finished. Then out of the blue one day the house phone rang and it was EZ my mum awnserd
and he said hello is charlie there please she passed me the phone and said i think its EZ at that point i had trouble
speaking coz i was so nervouse HAHA and he said to me hi mate i want you to come do a live mix and a interview on
my show so i said yes
Waiting to go on i was practisin atleast 6-7 hours a day then it finaly hit the day of the show and i was
ready so i went and done the mix and the iterview after the mix EZ opend the phone lines they went mad people were
wanting to send me records(befor the show id asked record companys to send me stuff and they said no were not intrested)
it was them same companys wanting to send stuff! people wanted to book me it was crazy..
Then i started to do tv, newsparper apperances and people started to recorgnise me and i was the little kid that could
mix better than most adults and got compared to some big name's it was all too fast for me everyone was saying that they
was suprised it hadent gone to my head but how could it i was 11 years old and just liked to play with my decks and
listern to the music i loved! i didnt rele understand what was going on for it to go to my head.
The years went by and i was improveing EZ said on the big breakfast this boy will be a million air by the time he's 18
and will be the one to take over from me it was all looking good and i keept my head down and was working hard
for something i wanted and loved
Then towards the end of 2003 there was the begining of the violence gun crime all at the garage raves They started to get
shut down befor they had even started and police wernt haveing no clubs playin any garage and then grime came around.
(im not a grime fan atall like the odd tune but the older grime IGLOO,THE ENDS that sorta stuff
But now for 2007 the scene seems to be starting to pick up and thats the best feeling ever the return of oldschool garage
and the return of little charlie.!!!
