The Realm formed in late 1997. Originaly comprising of Louis Holloway formally of 13 Candles and Rob Webley, ex-W.O.R.M. The bands ranks swelled to a three piece with the addition of Katy Howson on drums.
In 1998 the band entered the studio to record their first CD which was entitiled "Welcome to the Realm..." The band was joined by 13 Candles guitarist Marc Hoyland who guested on guitar and extra percussion for the album.
Following the release of the debut CD the Realm embarked on a series of gigs with the climax to be in Whitby which saw the band performing at the Symphony of Shadows festival with Inkubus Sukkubus and Chaos Engine. The band was intoduced on stage by none other but the legendary Ingrid Pitt.
In 1999 the bands ranks swelled to a quartet with Marc Hoyland joining the band full time. After hefty writing sessions and rehersals the band entered the studio again to record the follow up to "Welcome to the Realm...". This was to be entitled "Before the Daylight" and featured some of the bands best
work yet.
The Realm made an appearance at the Metropole hotel, Whitby in 1999 to perform at the Halloween Spectacular with Squid and Sanctuary. This proved to be a successful and memorable performance.
Yule 1999, "Before the Daylight" is released and is quickly promoted by the band playing at the Myth festival in London with Theatre das Vampires and Midnight Configuration.
In the following years the band played show after show and released 2 CDs, a best of called "Bites" and "The past, the present, the future..." which include some old unreleased material, remixes and some new tracks.
In 2000 Marc left the band due to personal interests and to follow his own path.
The band were quick to recruit bass player Clara into the ranks. Several gigs were perfomed with Icon and Malaise, and a successful tour with Witchfynde/luther beltz ensued. Shortly after Katy had to leave the band due to university commitments.
With the new line-up in place, consisting of Louis, Rob and Clara they went into the studio to record the 2004 album simply entitled "The Realm". Some of the tracks on this release displayed a darker, hard side of the band and saw them taking the band to a new level.
The band ventured back on the road after the release of the album, playing numerous haunts across the U.K. in 2004 and 2005. Marc Hoyland was able to return to the band, strengthening the bands guitar attack. However this was not to last as Clara exited the band due to her own personal interests. Marc swiftly took up the bass guitar position proving that The Realm would not lie down and die.
The next 2 years would be spent performing shows with the likes of Scary Bitches, Killing Miranda and Lupine. During this period song writing for the next album would begin.
In 2007 The Realm would enter SubZone studios to record the bands 5th studio album. Drawing influence from Trad Goth, Industrial and even Classic Rock, the album is set to be a Realm classic. The album is set for a late 2008/early 2009 release...
