Unique mixture of old skool funk, Soul and modern Hip-Hop
Described as powerful and organic" Metis have thoroughly earned the title as one of the best unsigned live bands to come out of the UK
Incorporating raw hip-hop lyrics with a pure soulful vibe, their unique sound combines influences from James Brown, Shugie Otis, The Roots and OutKast, which shifts their music from old-skool soul and funk through to more contemporary Hip-hop.
Multi-talented singer/songwriter Yann started producing and writing his own music since the age of 13 but emerged as an artist in 2004 when he blew fans away at T in the Park with Snow Patrol in their rendition of Crazy in Love. Accompanied by songwriter/poet Marie, they teamed up with Davey Pollit, a renowned bassist and producer (who has worked with Seal, Banderas, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Associates, Nik Kershaw, Simon Clime amongst others) to create an original soul-stirring sound that combines a mixture of live instruments, hip-hop samples and beats with engaging raps that draw on the diverse music popular in the duos native France and Ghana.
Yann, Marie, Davey, Mykey (guitarist), Danny (drummer) and Loftie (DJ) culminate the upbeat, raw, energetic sound that has earned the band so many captivated fans through their live performances in popular venues such as MTV Base Lounge, Caf de Paris, POP, The Soultree, Strawberry Fair, Pink Picnic as well as consistent airplay on East Anglias No.1 Radio station Vibe FM, exclusive features on several shows daily on www.pulserated.com and a review as one of the best demo's on BBC OneMusic Unsigned.
Metis (pronounced May-tis) is a represents a mix of different races, cultures, music and style and also means mixed race in French which signifies Yann and Marie background.
