Michael K.'s got hooks... in the form of catchy well-written pop/rock songs that are easily identifiable to listeners of all ages. His songs have been licensed and featured on ABC Family TV, MTV, and a Showtime original movie. Whether he's playing solo or backed by his band, he's gonna hook you!Michael K hails from Pennsylvania, but it's the Chesapeake Bay area where he now resides, and what most informs his work. The brick roadways of Annapolis, the city streets of Baltimore, and the waters of the Bay itself imbue his songs with a sense of warmth without sacrificing verve.
Michael K. is at the forefront of a burgeoning Annapolis music scene where an eclectic mix of the Delta blues, rockabilly, alternative and art rock serves as an interesting backdrop to Michael K.'s earnest, unambiguous approach. His music, Michael K. says, "draws on my personal experiences as well as idealistic fantasies of that 'perfect love.'"
Produced and arranged by guitar virtuoso Todd Kreuzburg, his debut record, "Heart Shaped Songs" is bound together by simple, straightforward melodies, modern instrumentation, and top-notch production. On the album, Michael K channels all the bands he grew up (Crowded House, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Matthew Sweet) as well as his like-minded peers (Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Adam Duritz). He takes everything they love about rock, and everything they know about pop, and plays it his way. Not afraid to fall in love, to show his bruises, to make people dance, or most importantly to lend his own unique voice, Michael K has made a made a bittersweet record that still has the ability to flat-out rock.
