| General | "Led by the legendary guitarist/vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich, The Obsessed is still highly regarded as one of the most influential doom bands of the eighties. After a rare debut EP (often referred to as the Sodden Jackal EP), Weinrich took an offer to join St. Vitus, folding the band in the process. After a lengthy run, he returned and put together a new version of The Obsessed, one that ran until 1995, at which time he formed Spirit Caravan while the other two members at that time formed Goatsnake. Weinrich, after dissolving Spirit Caravan and playing for awhile in Place Of Skulls, has yet another new band, The Hidden Hand. The style of The Obsessed was classic sludgy doom, though by the time of their last album, The Church Within, the band had expanded its sound a bit, benefitting from a better production, and had incorporated a slight less overt doom style, somewhat similar to the direction Trouble took near the end of their initial run."
