Bio
Songwriter Pat Terry was born in 1952, and grew up in the groundbreaking days of American rock 'n roll. His earliest musical memories revolve around a jukebox that played in the restaurant owned and operated by his father. The music of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Horton became the soundtrack for summers spent working in the family business. It wasn't until the Beatles invaded America however, that Terry picked up a guitar and began making music of his own. At age twelve, he formed a band that remained together throughout his high school years. In 1970, those early influences began to surface when Terry decided to pursue songwriting. As a pioneer of Contemporary Christian music, he was part of the first wave of artists to be signed to the then fledgling Myrrh Records label. Between 1974 and 1980 he wrote and recorded seven albums with his own Pat Terry Group, and toured the country playing a unique blend of inspirational country, pop, and blues, that earned him a loyal following of listeners. During that time his songs appeared on albums of a diverse list of artists that included pop singer, B.J. Thomas, country great, Ray Price, and cowboy hero, Roy Rogers. Terry's songs, "Home Where I Belong", and "I Can't Wait" became standards in the Contemporary Christian Music field. After disbanding his group in 1980, Terry recorded three critically acclaimed solo albums that featured a more rock oriented sound coupled with heartfelt confessional lyrics. Once again he cut a more contemporary groove into the sound of Christian music. In 1985 Terry decided to leave the rigors of the road and make songwriting his primary pursuit. The new tradition of country music being recorded by artists such as Steve Earle, Ricky Skaggs, and Emmylou Harris, convinced him to become better acquainted with Nashville. He began making regular trips to Music City in 1986. As the co-writer of Foster and Lloyd's "Lie To Yourself", he enjoyed his first country music songwriting success. He then co-authored with Travis Tritt, the singer's first number one country hit, "Help Me Hold On". In 1992 Terry signed exclusively with Murrah Music Corporation's ASCAP affiliate, Castle Street Music, Incorporated. That professional association yielded a number of songs recorded by various artist's including, Confederate Railroad, The Oak Ridge Boys, and Kenny Chesney. During this period Terry also enjoyed the success of two more number one songs, Tanya Tuckers "It's A Little Too Late", and Sammy Kershaws "National Working Womans Holiday". More recently Terrys songs have appeared on albums by country hitmakers John Anderson and Tracy Byrd. In 2006 his beautiful "Someplace Green", as performed by The Oak Ridge Boys, was heard on both country and gospel radio. He currently writes for his own ASCAP affiliated company, End of August Music, and resides with his wife Pamela in the Atlanta suburb, Smyrna, Georgia. ........ .. ..........Get this FREE MySpace layout and more at ..MySpaceOrYours.net...... .. -

have a good day!
hope you have a good day !
Good to hear from you, Jeff. Time has flown! Glad you survived the seventies and are still going. :) Yep, I'm still playing the same D28 that I was using back in the day! It's like an old friend. Hope to see you down in Brunswick sometime. Live music is still what I do. All the best!
Hi Pat, wow been a long time! I used to go to the Ellis Bible Study years ago with a best friend from high school, Ed Wier, he's now playing and teaching classical guitar. I happened to see your name while browsing the internet recently and that led me to your Myspace page. Ed and I got up on the stage one night at The Ellis Bible Study and played a couple songs we had written, that was my first time playing in front of that many people. I was sooooo nervous I thought I would throw up. I think you looked up at Ed Wier and said "Hey brother...ya freaking out?" That's about 30 something years ago, man how time flies. I also (and Ed) used to go to the Christ The Only Way Mission (Brother Bob - evangelist) that was where I first saw you play and sing. Always admired your talent for creating melodies, you Sonny and Randy put together some fantastic music during those years!
I'm living in south Georgia now near the coast, Brunswick GA.
It was great looking through the pictures you posted, lot a memories there! I think I saw Sonny's Myspace page a couple of weeks ago, he's (I think) music director at a church now??? He's an amazing lead guitarist, he showed me one night after the Ellis Bible Study how to play that lead riff to "You Got Me" and over 30 years later I still can't play it without 15 to 20 mistakes and nowhere near as smoooooth sounding as Sonny can do it. Hey, by chance is that guitar you're playing the same Martin guitar you had back during the bible study days? That was a great sounding guitar!
Well, I should get some sleep, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and Pamela. I love a good melody and I still get goose bumps when I sing "I can't wait to see Jesus, cause Jesus is coming again!"...you have a fantastic talent, God Bless You!
