Onwards The Few, Onwards The Few,
England’s football glory is flying again,
Onwards The Few, Onwards The Few,
The Cross of St. George is flying again
Verse 1
Dark clouds over, the white cliffs of Dover,
Rolls Royce engines, Fly in any storm
Just as England flew in 1966,
English fans are singing, ‘we’ll provide the fix’
CHORUS
Verse 2
John Terry, Gary Neville, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole,
England sings, Providing wings, to help Robinson in goal,
As Squadron Leader Beckham, has ordered chocks away,
Our chanting is the magic so The Few will win the day
Owen is the ace, The pride of the English race,
Our man Wayne Rooney, one man hurricane!
CHORUS
Verse 3
Never before, on football’s field of glory,
Has so much been given to so many by so few,
Now Gerard, Cole and King, Old Englands merry men,
Will fly the world cup home, Over white cliffs once again
‘Onwards The Few’ – A Football Song with a Difference?
“Onwards The Few” is the brainchild of London poet Jonnie Enright and is a football song with a difference. This song not only captures cool, attitude, a terrace friendly killer chorus but also a great story.
Drawing a direct parallel between The Few who flew in the battle of Britain and The Few who will be flying in Germany in June, this song is a great celebration of Englishness. But the story goes back much further to all that is truly English with a reference to Olde England’s Merry Men.
Produced by Manchester based producer Jason Brown, The Reclaimers are on a mission to not only support the reclaiming of the world cup but also the reclaiming of the true spirit of English identity.
This song is however in no way anti German but is rather an acknowledgement of the true spirit of Englishness in today’s multi-cultural Britain.
Lend your support to Squadron Leader Beckham and his team. The June tabloid headline has just been written – ONWARDS THE FEW.

The Story Of The Few
Once upon a time, a long time ago; King Arthur’s knights rode forth from Camelot to defend old England. The Glastonbury legends tell, “In England’s hour of need, Arthur’s knights will ride again”.
Once upon a time, not so very long ago; in the autumn of 1939. Albion’s blue skies turned grey as a vast unbeatable air armada spread black wings over English society. Yet England has a secret – Excalibur is not forged from fear or hate but from the traditions of community and family. England’s Holy Grail holds a magic potion brewed from decency, tolerance and fairplay.
The flower of Polish and Canadian chivalry also rode to protect England’s Grail as once again; the Knights of the air awoke from their enchanted slumber. Saint George forged new armour, from the gold his dragoness gave him from deep within her secret hoard. Millions of English women breathed fire into their men so English children should never live in slavery. The women of England collected sauce pans, spoons and church railings; reforging Excalibur with their self-less love into the white wings of glorious victory. This is the legend of “The few”.
Those days are gone now and in the past they must remain. Yet St. George and his dragoness lived happily ever after in an enchanted garden called modern multicultural Britain. Together, forever, in lovely rainy weather in a sleepy little hamlet, signposted “Camelot”.
Many commentators believe England can’t win this football world Cup but English history does not support this view. Captain Beckham and his team cannot be defeated, because win, lose or draw, England always plays for the best of reasons. No gaudy golden cup can match the elusive spirit of Britannia. One simple red rose in an old wooden cup, is the greatest treasure trove that shall be forever England.
Now is the time. All Britannia’s prayers are flying to her Football players; as they flew to “The few” in the autumn of 1939. Foreign princes may think old England’s dead, but wise frogs prefer to kiss her sleeping beauty - “Onwards the few.”
