• AL LAVIS - GUITAR & VOCALS.
Ex Sly Groovers veteran of stage and studio both here in NZ and the U.S. Al is well known for his smooth bluesy vocals and blistering guitar solos that’ll leave you gasping.
• GEOFF FITZPATRICK - ELECTRIC & UPRIGHT BASS.
Geoff has toured and played bass throughout NZ including being part of support acts for the recent Simple Minds tour and with Voodoo Kreepers at ex Stray Cats, Slim Jim Phantom’s Auckland show. Watch out for his energetic double bass balancing act.
KERRY FRASER - DRUMS & VOCALS
Kerry likes to use dead animals as percussion instruments . His favourite sound was achieved by swinging a dead warthog into the distended belly of an elephant . With a pair of drumsticks Kerry can tenderise a steak better than any one on earth. His favourite phrase is "no animals were harmed during the killing of these animals." Kerry we salute you and all the rotting carcasses in your studio.
• BRUCE FRENCH - SAXOPHONE.
Whenever possible The Recliner Rockers are joined by good friend Bruce French on sax and BVs. Bruce has his own very popular and successful working band Tongue and Groove but is always keen to work with the guys whenever he gets a break in his busy schedule.
Influences
Spike Milligan,Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stray Cats, The Paladins, Danny Gatton, Elvis, Johny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, Dire Straits,Cliff Gallup,Peter Green,Eddie Cochrane,Jimmie Vaughan,Hank Williams,Albert King,Chet Atkins,Chuck Berry and too many others to list.
The truth about the Recliner Rockers must be told ,the band has suffered under a curse for many years and for that reason has been shunned by fellow musicians and the record industry, lest they be tainted by the same misfortune. This is how it all unfolded ......
Reeling and deafened after a gig at a local fairground and still altered by the medicine they had been taking the boys stumbled across an old gypsy woman. Offering to read their fortunes she said "cross my palm with silver", they thought she said "saliva" and being of a somewhat punkish bent the boys obliged. From that day forth they were pariahs and sorely afflicted. Whenever they tried to enter a recording studio bad things happened, engineers were impaled on boom stands and producers turned into Phil Spector and started shooting everyone in sight. No matter how brilliantly they performed, every play back sounded like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Live gigs were always accompanied by thunder, lightening and rain. The same sinister entities turned up to every show.... and soon no one would book or support the Recliner Rockers. A season on a cruise ship in a part of the world where they were unknown resulted in the loss of several hundred lives and a vintage Gretsch 6120 guitar. The band realized the only gigs they could get were in the underworld, which is how they came to play in hell .... but after offending even audiences in the nether world, with their behaviour, they were expelled back into the light and the curse was lifted . (after all they weren't welcome back in Hades.) So now it is almost safe to book or see this band play, they certainly have some interesting road stories.
Remember - speak slowly and clearly. To these guys- "play Robbie Williams " sounds very similar to "strangle me where I stand" and "would you like a pina colada" sounds exactly like " tatoo me to death with a broken bottle please". Smelling ever so slightly of sulphur and brimstone these boys are ready to rock!
