A year ago approximately we discussed with great enthusiasm EP - CD "Hot Off The Press" with 5 songs from the Red Hot Blues Sisters, and found it regrettable that only 5 songs were on it, because each one received a thumbs up and were finger licking. Guitariste Teri Anne Wilson and singer Suze Sims are both at the top in their professions. The black voice of Suze is full of feeling and that rough timbre, which is sometimes reminiscent Tina Turner, but also to Bonnie Raitt, which is understandable, because she worked with Bonnie Hayes as a producer (songschrijfster for some of Raitt's greatest GRAMMY successes "Have A Heart" "& Love Letter") Hayes is also producer of Bonnie Raitt Vicki Randle Huey Lewis and Robert Cray. Gitariste Teri Anne likewise the profession knows and plays with equal freedom the most splendid guitar solos.
Both were also nominated last year respectively for "Best vocalist" and "Best Gitariste" of 2006 by the Washington Blues Society. Nominations were also received for best band 2005 and 2006. Formally called The Red Hot Blues Sisters, you may currently see this Best Band for 2007 called "Red Hotz, . The sisters are still the nucleus of the band, but have opted for shorter and more democratic name to be adopted. From the moment the first rumors of the full CD; which we were so eagerly impatiently awaiting it's arrival. 'Feel the Burn' - Peace Code Records is now HERE, and there is more good news: "The Red Hotz" will come to the Benelux countries this Sep - Oct 2007, with 8 performances in Belgium the Netherlands, and also in France and Germany. Let this not to pass, because this is not just promotional hype; reviews of the American performances are wildly enthusiastic.
Let us review the listen to "Feel The Burn". The opening song "Crying Shame" is already immediately an abundance of roses, very strong Santana inspired blues, in which both Suze and Teri let us hear their quality. Suze's voice is in great shape and Teri plays as if she got Carlos to provide a very personal lesson. "My Dream" is again proof that Suze is one of those singers who sings what she feels at the moment, not just as text, you know you would hear it every night in those songs again and again. What else you hear when she would sing them, as it were improvise with her voice, and a presence of feeling that is literally dripping off. "Southern Comfort" is a perfect example of this. Soul, blues and gospel into one. "Pour Your Heart Out" is one of the songs re-mixed from the 2005 EP-CD , a funky shuffle full of fire. "Flood In My Basement" by Suze and Teri is the self produced song with the greatest influences Bonnie Raitt. You would almost swear that its Miss Bonnie herself. That the one number where I can not get enough of. And I regret, I must still strew the superlatives for "Ocean Beach" is also remixed from the EP-CD I am captured by it, I have already heard it 50 times and have not become tired of it. Strong song, strong guitar, strong voice, what more can I say? "Ain 't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers, always a splendid song, has been given a Police-dub-blues jacket adaptation, and as a result, a complete captivating piece of work, in which Suze again becomes alive with the vocals. "Transactions", up-tempo a blues with funky saxsolos and slide guitar strike like the fire in the pan. Whereupon starlit sky Suze's singing in "Headlights" and again Teri the naturally places layed back guitars and cool low end. "Needless to say " has total hit potential, ready for airplay and a soulful song. It reminds me of one they can bring unto a hit parade. I know at least that I sing to it all time;yet it is to neurieën, because I can not sing. Just for fun..."Kiss My Dimple" is een relaxte blues, waar beide dames, moet ik het nog herhalen, om ter best wedijveren om die kus te verdienen. Suze improviseert weer losjes uit de pols en . " Kiss My Dimple " is a relaxed blues, which both ladies, I must repeat it, in order to best compete for that kiss your mind. Suze improvises again loosely from the wrist and Teri beautifully fills the vacant place with bluesy gitaarlicks. We can not exclude that one of the best songs from "Hot Off The Press", one of those songs that last year I heard several times a week and that suits me more every time is "See You."
I should also say, hopefully we can get free for any of the concerts within a few weeks, so we can see them live.
