theredsunband are a trio based in sydney, australia who play pretty loud, dark, heavy, sad dream-pop. all three people in the band sing to marvelous effect.
theredsunband released 'The Shiralee', their second album, in June 2008.
'The Shiralee' was produced by dean dirt (magic dirt) and recorded in ten days at hothouse studio in st kilda, melbourne. tim whitten (the clouds, art of fighting, powderfinger, gersey, gaslight radio) mixed the songs.
the second album is completely self-funded thanks to endless touring in 2005 and winning the jessica michalik songwriters grant in early 2006. jessica michalik was the girl who died at the big day out, and the award is given out by the organisers of the event.
'The Shiralee' is a 100% indie release.
theredsunband released their first album ('peapod') in 2004 to good reviews around australia. the album was preceded by three singles, the first was called 'pavement', the second 'sleep forever', and the third (a 7" single) entitled 'devil song'.
in november 2007 the band released an EP called 'Like an Arrow', a track common to both the EP and 'The Shiralee'. The EP also featured four other songs that don't appear anywhere else.
theredsunband showed a great love of hitting the highway and toured around australia as often as possible, with other australian & kiwi acts like love outside andromeda, art of fighting and holly throsby, liam finn, gaslight radio, the gin club, faker, the vasco era, little birdy and end of fashion, and the panics.
theredsunband were exceedingly lucky to play with a bunch of overseas acts they adored, such as cat power, blonde redhead, grandaddy, the shins and sonic youth.
after the release of their debut album, theredsunband were also invited to play at several australian festivals, such as the big day out, homebake, the come together festival, meredith and cockatoo island.
