lee gorton, the monks kitchen, john stammers, monkberry momma, spaceships are cool, the volunary butler scheme, steven fretwell, the beep seals, jim noir, sam and me, stazi, guy garvey, mumblin jim, the beans, keith, the draytones, sam hammond, jim littlewood, alfie r.i.p.
the red thread is an ongoing, eclectic, collaborative experiment to see if we can pull an album together, out of nothing, whilst never asking anyone to do anything they don't wanna do. largely built around manchesters, as yet, undiscovered songwriting talents but at the same time unashamedly featuring as many special guests as we can convince to add a little glamour to proceedings.
it's not obligatory to be a manc to get involved though, in fact one of the unique parts of this project is that we're opening it right up to everyone. through this site and our own website www.theredthread.org we're in the process of setting up a system where we can share all the info on what songs we've got and who's involved as it's happening. there's a regularly updated blog spanning all our attempts to embroil folk in this project and our various attempts to get this thing off the ground. we're gonna need a lot of help and the point is to share the jobs between people who want to do them 'cause they think they'd get something out of it. so anyone who thinks they have something to offer... get in touch. we want songwriters, arrangers, singers, engineers, producers, designers, remixers, artists or anyone with a big mouth. you might have a talent we've not thought how to use yet but we'll try and involve folk who are willing.
these are very early days and this could all still avail to nothing, but the more folk get involved the better chance we've got of pulling it off. the idea only came into conception in the dying days of 2005 and already we've secured the talents of steven fretwell, guy garvey of elbow, jack cooper, john stammers, sam and me, stazi, the beans, jim noir, keith, snow patrol and many of the ex members of alfie. not a bad start then.......
the songs on the player are either demo's or old versions of songs that we intend to kit out with a sonic refit. imagine stazi's 'love is lethal' recorded phil spectoresque, with a real band and our very own ronnettes singing the chorus. i'm gonna have a go at singing 'ice is melting' with a string section and double bass part. and hopefully, fretwell is gonna do a version of 'save the cake'. the other one is an old alfie tune that was too weird to get on our last record but maybe we can do something with it now. there's more to come too, so get involved..... cheers, lee g.

hi y'all..
got two last redbricks nights in november before the winter kicks in for real so try one of these out for one last look above ground before the hibernation begins...
our weekly monday run at the cedar room continues tonight with another impressive FREE line up that runs,
10.00 my summer as a a salvation soldier
9.15 dan clews
8.30 mary hepworth
lee gorton and friends will be playing records with the usual fine blend of fucked up folk and mellow psychedelia.
on thursday november 29th we've got our flagship 'down at the redbricks' night which has now established itself on the english maid, a boat on the thames, pretty much opposite the houses of parliament.
the venue's amazing and these gigs always feature our toughest redbricks line ups and this one's no different..
the moon music orchestra
the burning leaves
adam beattie
colorama
it's a fiver on the door, which is still a snip, but if you send us an email to theredbricks@hotmail.co.uk we'll put you and your friends on the £3.00 guest list.
hopefully see y'all soon..

howdy, here's what's coming up in the next month folks..
got the redbricks festival of folk on this sunday, 21st, at the amersham arms in new cross. the line up's changed a little as findlay brown has broke his leg, but i think the likes of pete molinari, the superimposers, john stammers, emma tricca, pete greenwood, luca and ain make for a pretty great FREE day out. starts abround 4, i heard a rumour about half price roasts too but don't quote me on it...
got this lot on for ya too..
the big bertha gig on the boat is a fiver but gimma shout if you want to get on the £3 guestlist.
cheers, the redbricks.. x
hey gang,
got our open mic for friends of the redbricks again this sunday in the gladstone.. it's free in and emma tricca will be playing for sure..
also, the sad news is that the proud galleries is closing in september so this is your last chance to enjoy the redbricks in their glorious surroundings. it's relocating to somewhere new in camden in november so we'll be carrying on from then.. meanwhile i've lined up a boat on the thames to replace the dates in september and october..
send us a message if you wanna get on the guestlist for our post greenman special on august 21st..
the good ship sails on..
