The Renaissance Guild, founded in January of 2001 by Latrelle Bright, Danielle King, and Paul Riddle, Jr., is a non-profit organization dedicated to the examination, preservation, and celebration of the Black experience through theatre; providing educational outreach programs to the San Antonio community and surrounding areas, and providing opportunities for artistic expression to all people.
We accomplish these goals through our challenging, diverse and innovative productions featuring traditional plays with non-traditional casting (Betrayal, Godspell, The Magic Act, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lysistrata), spotlighting works with powerful social themes (Bee-Luther-Hatchee, Blessed Assurance, The Left Hand Singing, Southern Cross, In the Blood, Frankenstein) and uplifting Black theatre voices (Spell #7, Riff-Raff, In the Blood, From the Wilderness to the Promised Land, Somebody Else’s Life and A Raisin in the Sun). In addition, we have provided drama workshops for kids and adults throughout the prior seasons.
