   About The Rideouts
Everybody and every band in music these days sound like someone else: right? Well, is that such a bad thing? After all John Lennon was a fan of Elvis which lead his little band to sound just a tad ‘rock n’ roll’.

We all compare something new to something old which in itself is not only human nature but a compliment in itself.

It’s no coincidence then that the fabulous RIDEOUTS have already been compared with the Beatles and Eric Clapton by those who understand this business, which is why it would be naïve in the extreme to overlook ‘the next best thing!!!’

THE RIDEOUTS were formed in 2003 by guitarist and multi instrumentalist Max Scherbi. He was then joined by Gianpiero de Candia on bass and Andrea D’Ostuni on drums.

Their album, "THE STORM AFTER THE CALM", which was completed this year, will soon be available to grace your player of choice.

It would be so easy to follow the usual PR format of filling this page with cliché and b*****it about a band of which you know nothing…….you know that and so do I.

THE RIDEOUTS would be mortified if I were to put them in the same category as everyone else. That’s why it must be left to ‘the boys’ and their album to do the ‘talking’. After all, isn’t that why we’re all here? Isn’t that what it’s all about?

RADIO Do your listener a favour: give them the opportunity to hear THE RIDEOUTS

Hey, but what do I know? Well, I’ve been in this business for 20 years as a broadcast journalist, presenter, writer, columnist, editor and producer, I’ve worked with and met some of the best and most creative folk on this planet including the likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and I don’t afford praise lightly. I’m telling you now: miss THE RIDEOUTS at your peril!

The Rideouts

In my books, there's absolutely nothing wrong in being inspired and influenced by the Beatles, Lennon and most anything and everything from the Sixties. Some- even my beautiful Kristine- think the Sixties were "hippies sitting around a campfire smoking weed and singing Dylan songs," but I guess one needed to be there. Sure, she likes the music of the Beatles. She just tires of me telling her how Lennon brought about more Change than Obama ever will. Obama, she reminds me is loved by "all of Europe" [she's Danish] and how he is "her generation's Lennon," to which I reply, Jeez, baby, if he is, that's kinda sad.
Anyway, if not for passionate discussions like these- and there are the days when they get a bit over-heated- relationships will get boring, the Silent Treatment will become part of being together and eventually crumble like the proverbial cookie as there will be no dough to hold it all together. It's like music: No passion, no real need to be a muso. One might as well go join a bank [are any still around?] or become a reality star.
The Ride-outs have passion and a healthy respect for that time when many of us thought anything and everything was possible. When "Yes We Can" was more than some cute slogan that promised much and delivered nothing. This respect is in their music. Sure, it's not "revolutionary," but apart from a finger-full of acts like OneEskimo, what is today? Plus these guys are from Italy. So listening to a track early in the morning like their "Sweet As Honey" and "hearing" Cream's "Strange Brew" somewhere in there gives one hope that by revisiting the past, the future for music is looking good.
"Stranger In Your Heart" with the use of mandolin and dropping in the word "man," "The One I Let Go," they're all a musical homage to the Beatles, in general, and Lennon, in particular.
In Max Scherbi, the band has a talented singer, songwriter and a guitarist who has listened to enough Cream and Hendrix records to stand him in good stead to go toe-to-toe with many "name" guitarists around today. Check out his solo on "Wicked Mind" and the use of a wah-wah pedal. It's Cream time and "Disraeli Gears" in motion. Plus the guy made some pilgrimage to Liverpool and lived there for a few years just to, one guesses, soak up whatever was there from the Sixties to soak up. More passion.
Like I said, the band's music is not something that's revolutionary nor a breakthrough. It's not Owl City and "Fireflies" though, despite the sudden hype, it is also nothing that's a breakthrough, per se. It's just good song compared to all the rubbish that's out there. And it does offer us all hope that music is returning to some semblance of a melody and clever lyrics.
The Rideouts are nothing as fresh as One Eskimo. BUT, the potential is there. There is "something" in a world where many bands have "nothing" but cannot- or refuse to- hear that.
With the right team of Producer and Engineer, these guys- Scherbi, Bass Guitarist Gianpiero de Candia and Drummer Andrea d'Ostuni-can show the world that Italy can rock with the best of them and is not a nation of greasy middle-aged Lotharios like Il Divo.
Like all the great music coming outta somewhere like Denmark- Mew, Nephew [they REALLY should have broken through Internationally with their last album. Now? Who knows?], the best of them ALL to me- Spleen United- the brilliant Kashmir- another band who should have made it Internationally by now- The Asteroids Galaxy Tour who ARE making some waves outside of their homeland - Grand Avenue and others - this music needs to get OUT to the rest of the world. Why most of it doesn't, I have no idea.
Sometimes, it's complacency on the part of the bands whereas I often think there's a conspiracy by some arcane global music industry "Star Chamber" to control what does "go out there," aided and abetted by a media paid-off to give the illusion that if it's not "Made In America" it's all useless. Either that, or it's the simple fact that these bands are happy to be big fish and small prawnies swimming in their equally small ponds, getting absolutely nowhere and yanking each other's chains. This is how good music falls through the cracks and where no one wins.
Here's hoping a band like The Rideouts builds a STRONG team around them, well, rides out the storm that will take them and their music past all that Crosstown Traffic, down Penny Lane and Abbey Road, through Strawberry Fields and Itchycoo Park and find their own Voice and Sound. The musical chops are there. It's now getting it all to flow in the right direction- and flow outta Italy.

As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.

This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!

It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm

As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
