The Riot is a rock n roll band from Brisbane. Watch us playing live at the Jubilee in Brisbane!
For teenagers not yet exposed to the greats, growing up in the late 90s/early 00s gave the impression that the world of music was a dismall place with acts such as the Backstreet Boys, 5ive and Britney Spears gracing the airwaves and being beamed into our lounge rooms via video hits programs.
It wasn't until the death of George Harrison in late 2001, the release of 'Is This It?' and albums by other 'rock is back' bands as well as the long lost Nirvana track that everything seemed to change, bringing with it the exposure that many unsatisfied teenagers were in desperate need of. From here The Beatles were discovered, hard rock, then punk rock, then grunge and then anything else worthwhile that was in between.
In awe of this recent discovery of real rock music a bunch of likely lads decided to start writing their own music. Sure the early days weren't much more than backyard parties and knock about jams, but it wasn't long until things started to be taken seriously and a strong work ethic was undertaken.
The Riot is a five piece rock'n'roll band, a band who originally started in the early 00s as teenagers at school writing songs with music they liked and lyrics which portrayed the world through the eyes in which they saw it. Songs about going to parties, not getting girls, getting drunk really easy, failing school and drinking goon. Songs that they could relate to, songs that reflected them and their lives without the pretentious imagery that was being fed by the pop acts of the day. Music that was genuine and honest but at the same time catchy and with melody.
The band has had a revolving door of members over the years but has, in the last few years, finally settled on a solid line up (Jakk Savage - guitar & vocals, Chris Dangerous - guitar, Mikki Ginger - guitar, Danny 'The Lost Kid' Shaboink - drums and Gavwa B Awesome -bass) and sound and are now very serious and ambitious about the marketing of their music. While the sound and substance has improved since the early days as teens writing songs at home, the spirit and idea of writing honest songs about the world as seen through their eyes remains, as do the riffs and melody.
The band has played several successful gigs in and around Brisbane and the Gold Coast and are currently planning a tour down the East Coast of Australia this summer to coincide with the release of their latest six-track EP. So far the band has released a four-track CD and has plenty of merchandising material at their disposal (such as shirts, stickers, stubby coolers, etc) all designed around a strong marketing logo.
The band has big plans and would like to continue the great tradition of rock'n'roll by delivering more good music to the world and by being a band that people can actually take the time to develop a genuine interest in.
