THE RIVER CURLS AROUND THE TOWN…
… is a musical project established by Bart Bekker and Jan Vanwinckel. Bart and Jan have already been making music together for more then seven years in the rock band YEARN’d. To fill up their quiet moments, these two gentlemen thought it would be good to venture down some new and different musical paths. They started writing and recording tracks in January 2003. For a number of lyrics and ‘vocal samples’ they appealed to their English friend Mick Shorter.
Pretty quickly it was obvious where this project (musically speaking) was heading. There are clear influences from well-known (Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Eno, Lanois, Low) and less known (Hood, The Low Frequency In Stereo, At The Close Of Every Day, California Guitar Trio…) bands and musicians. Nevertheless they managed to create their very own, distinguishable style which makes the final result something that may be called original to say the least. Both lyrics and music are not only mysterious with inherent dark sides, but they also hold a mirror up to our faces…
During the past years, the band was focused on songwriting. More than 80 tracks were recorded in Jan’s en Bart’s home studio’s. Two of the songs appeared on compilation albums: ‘Tales from the river’ on ‘The Pet Series vol. 4’ (VOLKOREN - 2004) and ‘Miss you’ on Acoustika vol.3 (272 RECORDS - 2007). Both tracks received a lot of good comments…
Jan Vervloet is a well-known DJ/producer who gained international succes in the dancescene with projects like ‘Fiocco’ and ‘D.H.T.’. He’s following the band for pretty long time and offered recently to release their debut-album on his own label. On the sublabel AT NIGHT RECORDINGS to be concrete. The fullCD ‘More than a break’ has been released by the end of march 2008. album is available on the following legal downloadplatforms:

Proficiat met de CD-voorstelling vorige week in de RIO. We hebben er van genoten. Mooie nummers, heel veel sfeer en een leuke lokatie. Ook het nieuwe nummer (voor de volgende CD???), klonk erg sterk.
