thermonuclear artfare is a project designed to bring awareness to the public about certain political or social events, using art mediums as the form of expressing opinions on given policies, matters, norms, and prejudices. we pose situations in today’s society - from social perspectives to war policies to government rulings on international issues - and we ask you to respond to these given situations in art. we do not limit this reaction in any way; we do not give you a definition of what art is to us or what art should be to you; and we do not turn any project away. we ask for your response to be visceral, from the very core of your being, expressed in any way that you choose to get the feeling out. from visual art to fine art to poetry to computer programs to interactive workshops to videos to performance art to anything else you can possibly think of that we probably never could, this project is a conglomerate of people’s voices, raised in unison to show the public how the situation and the reaction looks, feels, tastes, smells, sounds. this is where we come together to have our say.
we show all of these projects together, in all their glory, at public viewings all over the east coast, sometimes all over the united states and perhaps, soon, the world. we invite people in other cities, states, and countries to join into the project and to display their artistic reactions to some of the world’s most prominent and problematic questions, issues, and policies. when the viewings end, this art, either whole or in part, along with video footage, photographs, and public comments from the viewings, are sent directly to the desks of those whose votes count, those who have and need the influence, those decision-makers who need to know how the public feels. sometimes words, alone, cannot move a person. sometimes voices cannot. but we hope that with the conglomeration of all forms of art - language, visual effects, video, words, opinions of real human beings who are being touched by these social issues – we can move someone to make a difference.
