The Roofies -- CD Rating ***
"These local lads will all but force you to muse nostalgically upon T Rex and Aeromith -- not a bad thing. "Leon" and "Why You?" charge out of the gate with the same piano pounding, scratch, and glam as the former outfit, augmented by a twangy set of vocals by Jason Shapiro and Daryl Orenge, while "Strike Me a Chord" and "Kastle" are more complex, hard-rocking arrangements a la "Toys in the Attic" and "Rocks." And like those other two bands, the Roofies take themselves none too seriously."

--------------------------------------The Los Angeles based rock band The Roofies formed sometime around the winter of 1995. In 1997 they recorded an Ep featuring the song "Why You". In 2004 the song "Why You" was included in the soundtrack for the film Naked Fame. You can purchase The Roofies albums containing "Why You" and other great songs from iTunes. (Self titled Ep "The Roofies I" from 1997-2002
or
"The Roofies II" from 2002) We prefer that you purchase the "Why You2002" single from our "Roofies I" album rather than the Naked Fame release.

With a dash of Cheap Trick, a pinch of Queen, a smidgen of Sparks and a great big splash of weirdness that's all their own, the Roofies' self-titled EP is a spiked drink of fizzy, deceptively sweet pop rock. Featuring the magnificent talents of Jason Shapiro, Michael Grau, and Daryl Orenge, the songs alternate brash, cocky verses and creepy-crawly choruses and are layered with Brian May guitar pyrotechnics and wispy, ethereal vocals. Especially powerful are the delicate drama of the quasi-religious "Strike Me a Chord" (is this a tribute to Jesus Christ Superstar?) and the fairy tale strut of "Kastle." Get dosed!
