Update Fun: New spurts of productivity! I've recently been working on 2 "remixes" of Assault Squad Safety Scissors songs (really just turning his indie-folk stuff into indie-pop stuff) and writing lots of tidbits of my own ranging from acoustic finger-picked crooning to dance tracks that may or may not directly steal drumbeats from kick-ass disco tracks. I hope to be showing off a good portion of them soon.
My name is Daniel Giles Helm and I'm from Oklahoma. Once, I started a solo music project called "The Rosa Parks of Music" because I wanted to compile all my recordings and a few new ideas into one coherent concept as a birthday present to myself for my 18th birthday. The results of that labor was what I chose to call an EP and which I chose to title "As a Child You're Sure..." The project is pretty dreary and is really 20 minutes of sulking music made for headphones. But it's good for what it is, really. In fact, all the mp3s for said recording can be found here:
Fast forward a year and I'd written little to no new material. I decided this was a bad thing and began tinkering with the intention of playing petite shows without reliance upon a laptop. The music I desired to make had slightly changed to what I endearing describe as "less boring" and perhaps even "ecstatic" or "melodramatic."
During my last weekend in the United States before moving to live in France (currently), I finished writing and recorded the 5 songs seen below so I wouldn't forget what I was doing before I left. They are all rough sketches and are saved in a folder on my computer called "Norman Demos!" If you want this folder and its contents on your own computer:
All these recordings and such are given away as gifts to you all because I don't have any way of telling you all I love you. But since I don't like what some people do, I claim some rights to the things I make, namely: steal it all to use as you please, but only if you don't make a profit, share the results and put some vague allusion to my existance.
Finally, if you'd like to see me perform any of the above songs, I live in Bordeaux, France right now. Come see me and I'll play you all the music you want.
And oh yes, be a good darling and visit the spaces of my top friends. They're more worth your time anyways.
I heard your recent remix of Andrew's song and I have to say, it is quite remarkable. I also have never heard this microphone song, and it too is quite nice. Oh Daniel, you and your music is simply the essence of beauty rolled into notes and sounds. I hope all is well across the big pond.
I have seen it, yes. I have seen it probably more times than I should. I really like Alejandro Jodorowsky's films. I was thinking about Daumal this morning in French 101, actually . . . Have you had a chance to read his work?
