Influences
We have a wide range of influences that vary massively from member to member.
But....Ryan Adams, Hope Of The States, Ballboy, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, My Morning Jacket, Ben Gibbard, Camera Obscura, The Strokes, Bright Eyes, Neil Young, Nick Drake, The Rolling Stones, Iron and Wine, Jeffrey Lewis, Rilo Kiley, Cat Power....something like that
Sounds Like
“…sun-warmed folk, reflective and soulful…inhabiting a world where electric guitars gently buzz, a trumpet softly blows and the vocals are a murmur among pristine melodies” Ged M SoundsXp.com
“…delightfully maudlin trumpet interjections…vocals which positively ache with sadness”
Russ Indiemp3.com
“a beautiful accompaniment to the Summer… sketched out with sounds that dazzle even from distant horizons. Compelling.”
Music-dash.co.uk
"‘This City Draws Maps’ is a heartbreakingly romantic record of acoustic lullabies and soft, hushed vocals that give you goose bumps all over and a serious case of the shivers" http://neonbuzzmagazine.blogspot.com
“These are tender optimistic songs about acceptance of life's ups and downs, sincere and self-assured.”
Sandman Magazine (April)
“At times electric guitars melt into the sound, making them sound like Iron & Wine meets Nick Drake's orchestration on Brighter Layter. This isn't twee Englishishness but good story writing layered over strong blues roots, leaving you quietly optimistic."
Sophie Kemp Sandman Magazine
“..an essential record: one that all must own...every note perfectly balanced, every track perfectly formed 9/10”
James Keen Thisisfakediy.co.uk
“The Rosie Taylor Project - playful... bashful... soulful...never woeful...WONDERFUL!" Marc Riley, 6 Music
"From this start The Rosie Taylor Project are masters in gentle respite and warmth, a craft sounding like Nick Drake in romantic company, stopping over for a week at Stuart Staples' French cottage with a shitload of wine." High Voltage
"A more polite version of arab strap" Johnny Ersatz-Culture, Sandman Magazine
"an intimate style that echoes the emotional drama of iLiKETRAiNS and the downbeat alt-country ways of Iron & Wine or Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy" Bearded Magazine
The Rosie Taylor Project is a six piece band based in Leeds, UK, though none of the band are called Rosie nor covet the surname Taylor. It is a moniker the band admires for a number of reasons but choose not to discuss too openly. (For ease, gentle reader, I shall hereon refer to The Rosie Taylor Project simply as ‘the band’). The band spent its first year playing shows with talents such as Midlake, Camera Obscura and Jeffrey Lewis which pleased the band no end. A debut single ‘Black & White Films’ followed which was made possible by the good people at Bad Sneakers Records, the music video for which could regularly be seen on MTV2 at start of the day/end of the night depending on your angle. The band spent the closing months of 2007 with producer Richard Formby recording an 8-track record titled ‘This City Draws Maps’ which can be found between the likes of Robyn and Josh Rouse in record stores on account of its Bad Sneakers release in May 2008. With a drummer and new lead guitarist in place, a national tour followed the release of the by now critically acclaimed record and it was a terrific time. The band is presently writing new material for a 2009 LP release inspired by these words, accredited to Woody Allen: ‘I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose’
Releases
New single "lovers or something like it" was released on the 6th of July 2009 on Bad Sneakers Records and is available to download now...
