Bio
.......... .. .. ..MyGen.. ..Profile Generator.. .. ..The Rosie Taylor Project came together in a redbrick Victorian shambles in Leeds. A modest beginning, with practices spent squished into a small living room, things soon took on a more disciplined hue when, after a handful of gigs, they signed to Bad Sneakers Records. A debut single, 'Black and White Films' swiftly followed, the video for which featured regularly on MTV2 and benefitted from radio play on 6 Music, XFM, and KCRW in the US. In the meantime, live shows included appearances with Camera Obscura, Midlake, Jens Lekman and Jeffrey Lewis to name but a few. Marc Riley has also kindly hosted the band on his 6 Music show for a number of live sessions. Amidst all of this a debut album was recorded in Richard Formby's (Wild Beasts, Herman Dune) attic studio. Many kind words were written about this record from the likes of Drowned in Sound and This is Fake DIY. One critic described it as 'a craft sounding like Nick Drake in romantic company, stopping over for a week at Stuart Staples' French cottage with a shitload of wine', which is a neat little summary. Having recently returned to the studio with the aforementioned invaluable Richard Formby a second album 'Twin Beds' has emerged, and new single 'Sleep' will precede this record with a self-release in June.. ..Releases...... The Rosie Taylor Project is a six piece band based in London/Leeds, UK, though none of the band are called Rosie nor covet the surname Taylor. It is a moniker the band admires for a number of reasons but choose not to discuss too openly. (For ease, gentle reader, I shall hereon refer to The Rosie Taylor Project simply as ‘the band’). The band spent its first year playing shows with talents such as Midlake, Camera Obscura and Jeffrey Lewis which pleased the band no end. A debut single ‘Black & White Films’ followed which was made possible by the good people at Bad Sneakers Records, the music video for which could regularly be seen on MTV2 at start of the day/end of the night depending on your angle. The band spent the closing months of 2007 with producer Richard Formby recording an 8-track record titled ‘This City Draws Maps’ which can be found between the likes of Robyn and Josh Rouse in record stores on account of its Bad Sneakers release in May 2008. With a drummer and new lead guitarist in place, a national tour followed the release of the by now critically acclaimed record and it was a terrific time. Notwithstanding the extended period of adversity that followed, the band re-entered the studio in the summer of 2010. Inspired by these words, accredited to Woody Allen: ‘I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose’ they completed their sophomore effort 'Twin Beds'. A release date is to follow soon
