The Rowan Amber Mill are Stephen, Kim and Terry, purveyors of Pastoral Folkadelica / Strange Folk (delete as appropriate). The sound is, in various incarnations, produced by Acoustic Guitars, a Bouzouki, an Electric Guitar, a Banjo, a Wobbly Bass, paint pots and percussion, a voice and some whistles being recorded in a disused sheds in the heart of the Westcountry. The music is their own brew of Pastoral Psychedelic Folk. Music produced out of love of both the authentic and innovative Sixties and Seventies folk of Fairport Convention, Martin Carthy, early Steeleye Span and Trees; and the delight of the current crop of "acid folkists" such as Espers, Tunng and Circulus. To sum up then - Modern tales of the timeless. Images hidden within pastoral landscapes. Music first and last. Expansive and Free. Cheese and Onion.

"Working to an epic scale, The Rowan Amber Mill are intense and magnificent on “Blood and Bones”, a hypnotic banjo adding menace to the tune, whilst an incessant drone nags away at the back of your mind"
Terrascope Online (The legendary Terrascopic Magazine)
"For the many who haven’t yet tuned into the sound of The Rowan Amber Mill, it may be a help to point you towards some stylistic comparisons with bands whose music you will have heard. Comparisons of The Rowan Amber Mill’s music could be easily drawn to the beautiful bucolic harmonies of Fleet Floxes, or the gorgeous psych-folk meanderings of Espers , the ‘early music’ weirdness of Circulus, the weirdy beardy guitar rumblings of Devendra Banhart, the beautiful pastoral psonics of (early) Tunng or perhaps the modern folk tales take mastered by The Owl Service. But the ‘Rowans’ have their own unique sound, and an approach to (some rather intricate) arrangements that blend whole series of instruments together that you wouldn’t automatically think of putting together. In that respect the music puts me in the mind of a contemporary folky take on Pet Sounds or with the scope of some of their mini-orchestra arrangements, a folk-sister to Joanna Newsom's epic YS album or a folk-brother to the pastoral strings of Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left. But at the heart of the music, it is obvious that the song is the thing". Mushroom Wings - issue 7 (Psych Folk fanzine).

Your kind comments are appreciated. Yes, you will find that track on Sapphire Stylus. It'll be out in the last week of December - just after everyone's finished shopping. In this way we shall strike a blow against the commodification of midwinter festivals.
