About me: Built for profitable income and investment for Mr James and Mr Adam, by a directorate of Mr Charles HSE and Hope Springs Eternal Productions the Roxy Movie House has become renowned as the most luxurious venue to enjoy Silent Movies.
The Roxy Movie House opened its doors on August 15th 1907; the ribbon was cut by local dignitary and Hotelier Mr Sandwell Fairbanks Vosper in the presence of Mr Charles HSE and his good lady wife, Mr James, Mr Adam and a veritable superfluity of young actresses.
This wonderful picture house provides entertainment unsurpassable at prices of 2d and 4d with children being admitted half-price.
Seating 1200 people on three floors the auditorium, mezzanine and balcony there are also eight private boxes.
Built in buff coloured brick and stone in the modern manner, the facade is an example of cultured architecture in which suitability for its purpose becomes its charm, while the interior has been executed in a refreshing abstract style of decorative treatment which should commend itself to its patrons. The ceiling and frieze are decorated with fibrous plaster floral band, and the floor is paved with marble terrazzo.
The colour scheme is delicately warm, the lighting effects ultra- modern the furnishings luxuriously comfortable with provision being made for stout and long legged patrons, the seating has sufficient room between rows for a comfortable stretch and each seat is like ‘an easy chair’ being upholstered in rich flame coloured plush matching the luxurious carpeting and harmonising with the décor..
Ventilation and heating of the building circulates cold air during hot weather, and during cold weather the cinema is ‘pervaded by the fresh, cosy warmth of a July day’ all the heating comes from radiators recessed in the walls so that no piping is visible.
The Projection Chamber – the heart of the Cinema – is equipped with the very latest mechanical, optical and electrical installation including the famous True Art Stereoscopic Projector.
The John Compton Organ Co Ltd, London ‘the largest theatre organ builders in the world, provided The Roxy with their organ, the newest model available, the console having a system of interior lighting by which the organist has control of a large number of colour tones interchangeable to suit the mood of the music or the picture on the screen. The main part of the instrument, built in special organ chambers, contains a large variety of effects which include the ‘thrilling peal of the cathedral organ, the brilliance of a full symphony orchestra, and the rhythm of the modern dance band.’ At the organ are Miss Shannon, matinee organist and Mr Sandwell Vosper evening organist who performs when on sabbatical from running The Hotel Vosper.
There is also the Roxy Café tea room and lounge which is open to the public regardless of whether they have come to see a film.

Happy New Year. I write to you today to inform you that I will not be renewing my contract as an actress with the Roxy Movie House this year, 2009. I will be taking the time to spend with my family and go back to school to continue my career in Corporate America. In my spare time I will continue to model with my dear friend and co-model and now ex-co-actress, Cherry Blossom. I wish you and everyone at the Roxy much luck and success. I will miss you all and look forward to seeing reruns of my classic moments as an actress on the silver screen. Take Care.
