The Royalz (former The Royals) is the ‘baby bastard’ of Danish-born artist Henrik. The first incarnation of the band started out as a school beat combo in the early days of 1992 with local gigs in the (posh) suburbs of Copenhagen. The line-up was Michael Roger on drums, Kasper Hammer on guitar (later replaced by Nicolai von Rosen) and Henrik on vocal and bass duties. A deal with Edel/Sony was signed in ’95 on the back of a riot gig in an Asylum in nearby town Elsinore but dodgy management at the labels Copenhagen office left the band with no other choice but to terminate the deal before a single note was down on good old fashioned tape.
The band took matters into their own hands and as the first local band they released their debut single ‘Day Of Reckoning’ on their own label Regal Records in 1996. Soon after, armed with the newly pressed single and international ambitions the band moved to London (UK) to take on the scene. There in May ’97 they recorded the still unreleased album ‘Untitled’ but soon after that the band imploded in the wake of ‘girl power’ and other fashionable trends.
Apart from rare appearances The Royalz have been quiet over the last 10 years. That will change in 2008 because apart from Henrik’s solo career in the more quiet atmospheric pop field with debut album “Faction” out on UK indie label Lojinx later this year plus recent work for Sir George Martin, Morcheeba, Jason Mraz, Kim Richey and Jamie Scott & The Town he feels the time is right to pick up the bass and play it in the context of the hard hitting band that is The Royalz.
