“The Rust Belt Ramblers…tremble, howl, and strum with the best of ‘em”
-Hedy Weiss, Sun-Times News Group, 8/21/09
Hailing from the hills of Texas and the prairies of Illinois, The Rust Belt Ramblers are redefining the sound of American Music. From ‘Cow-Punk’ to ‘Blackgrass’, people have tried to pigeonhole this group into many different genres, but when asked, they broadly refer to their music as ‘Americana.’
The band is fronted by K. Loren Fleming II, the great grandson of infamous Western Swing musician Leon Huff, “The Songbird of Texas,” and backed by gang of high energy musicians including Joe Tessone (banjo), Johnny Chastain (slide guitar), Eric AntiFa (drums), Mickey T Craft (double bass), Miss Bailey Dee (Cello) and numerous others on mandolin, fiddle, and washboard. Time and again this rowdy bunch has made crowds holler, stomp, and swing their way to the next round.
With their debut release, ‘Spring,’ they create a sound which reflects the restlessness of the city and the warbling sweetness of rural America. The acoustic innocence of this record captures the feeling of the bands’ modest beginning. Their latest album, ‘’til the Sun Comes Clean’ (due for release late 2009), fuses Fleming’s insightful lyrics and rustic finger-picked guitar to churn out uniquely modern compositions. With standout tracks like ‘Two Rounds’ and an appearance by mandolin great Colby Maddox, don’t be surprised if you find The Ramblers at the top of the folk charts and beyond.
The Rust Belt Ramblers have come a long way since their days of busking on the streets of Chicago. They will spend much of the next year on the road promoting their self-released records while guiding you through various tales of struggle and romance, with rhythms that will intoxicate and a soul that will carry you home.
