Experience the Sababas! A diverse group of artists and musicians from Ghana and Denmark are taking audiences along on a journey across physical, social and personal boundaries. With a touch of Ghana, Denmark, Somalia, Egypt and Surinam, the Sababas introduce a cross-over presentation of video art, reggae, R&B, dub, hiphop, traditional music and soul.
Over four weeks in the winter of 2009, the group of 12 artists and musicians met in a house in Tamale in northern Ghana, where they exchanged music, art, and ideas. The collaboration resulted in a constellation of music and art that not only blended elements of the different genres, but also posed questions about social and cultural dynamics from today's globalized society.
The Sababas project is an initiative of musicians, visual artists and individuals with a background in social development and youth empowerment who will be involved in all stages of the project from design to implementation to encourage ownership and sustainability.
Future activities of the Sababas include setting up an audiovisual studio in Tamale, Ghana and ongoing youth exchanges.
