| Lou Mathieu plays and teaches fiddle from his music shop on Route 302 in Westbrook. He brings an energy and technique that few fiddlers in the area can match. He is the son of famed Maine French Fiddler, Lucien Mathieu.
Mandolin player Taylor Smith, from Portland, Maine, captures the pure bluegrass sound that is both a great compliment to Lou’s fiddle work and pays respect to those giants of the instrument: Bill Monroe, David Grisman, and Roland White. Taylor also sings lead and harmony vocals.
Dave DesRussieux hails from Buxton, Maine and plays banjo. His 1927 Gibson Mastertone five string cuts a deep, respectable swath on such great songs as ‘Foggy Mountain Breakdown,’ ‘Armadillo Breakdown’ and ‘Vincent Black Lightning.’
Dale Holden, from Falmouth, Maine plays guitar and sings. Dale pays homage to those high lonesome vocalists such as Peter Rowan and Del McCoury on such tunes as ‘Knocking on your Door’ and ‘High on a Mountain Top.’ Dale will also occasionally take a lead guitar break on tunes like ‘Alabama Jubilee’ and ‘Soldier’s Joy.’
Zack Macomber rounds out the unit on stand-up bass. Zack resides in the Biddeford, Maine area. Zack is the youngest member of the band and is a classically trained musician. The boys are proud to have him as the solid foundation of the group. He also will sing the occasional lead vocal. |
