"Debut EP from this mysterious Yorkshireman. Released through the fledgling Hard Graft label on Christmas eve 2006, this sets the bar very high for anything to follow. Strong lyrics, softly sung on four gorgeous, slow-burning songs thankfully shed a little light on an artist who would seemingly prefer to remain anonymous. 'Not Comfortable' performing live for the moment - it would be a real shame if this release passed unnoticed due to a lack of (self?) promotion. A sublime string arrangement on 'with this bullet' from Paris Motel's Amy May completes a very special package indeed. For fans of Elliott Smith, Cass McCombs and Richard James' (from Gorky's) solo work." ROUGH TRADE

"All the world will be your enemy, prince with a thousand enemies, and when they catch you they will kill you. But first, they must catch you - digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed..." FRITH

My name is Patrick Shannon Whelan & I was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire. A couple of years ago (at the Queen's request I ought bequeath) I moved to London in a big white van. Rowlerpig came too & helped with the lifting, the smoking, the changing of cassette tapes & the perusing of lasses. Twas during one particularly engaging perusal that we crashed into a lamp post near Camden tube. Welcome to London - that'll be £600, a police caution & a bollocking off yer Dad...
The Samanas is my new band, assembled from the Hard Graft stable. We'll have an LP out early next year. It'll be called "Waxing Gibbous, Waning Crescent" & upon release it'll probably cause Neptune to go "Pssshhht!!! FUCK ME!!!" & promptly abandon it's current orbit for some Earth-circling action.
In the meantime - here’s some info on my solo record.

Spy meets Samanas. Spy falls in love. Samanas break his heart with Beautiful Harmony and Complex Mystical Chords. Spy develops inferiority complex. Samanas chuckle in a Northern Manner at Soft Southerner and shuffle off into the night. Spy writes ANOTHER low rumbling rambling song, probably featuring clarinets..... In short, i quite like you. See you soon over a whisky horizon i hope. x

Easily one of the most important bands of our times (and we don't say that lightly), Stars of the Lid are the highpoint of the ambient genre. Their influence on the music that really matters over the last decade has been huge, and we're incredibly honoured to be hosting them again in Leeds. This gig will be very very different, and very very special. Stars of the Lid have excelled at designing subtle, minimalist epics which sound like they're being played on a single multifaceted organic instrument. A wise man once described SOTL as "divine classical drones without the tedious intrusion of drums, or vocals. "
The Declining Winter is the musical project of Richard Vincent Adams of Leeds UK, the co-founder of the continuing group Hood and a full time stricken office worker. What does it sound like? Richard says "cassette tapes spilling out of the glovebox of a 1970's Datsun Sunny somewhere in the north of England, captured on Super 8 film". He's not far off. Live he is joined by a few more people to bring the beautiful pastoral feel to life. Wonderful stuff.
