“From recording a new album to keeping tabs on the Carolina Panthers and readying his band for a stop in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Frank Backgammon, lead singer and guitarist for the Charlotte rock band The Sammies, has a lot on his mind.”
Diversions staff writer Jordan Lawrence caught up with Backgammon to chat about the busy life of his band - and sandwiches.” (more) The Daily Tar Heel
Reviews
“The music is supercharged beer-and-babes rock, but the Sammies draw inspiration from so much of the rock ’n’ roll canon they’re impossible to pin down. Their party-perfect debut romps through double-time Ramones tempos, spiky post-punk, Stooges ’tude, AC/DC power riffs, DEVO robot rock, Byrds jangle and early Roxy Music textures.” (more) HARP Magazine
“The band's fiery debut sounds instead like it was grafted from the concrete, mortar, and steel of rock's foundations, all the while defying lazy genre-fication.” (more) Cleveland Scene
“Two young bands and their local labels set a brisk pace this year. The Sammies and the Avett Brothers, backed by MoRisen and Ramseur records, respectively, built expanding fan bases locally and nationally with new records and live dates across the nation.” (more) Creative Loafing
“The new songs are a bit more melodic than the sound of the band’s self-titled debut, but still fit well into the set and didn’t break the flow at all..” (more) Diversions | The Daily Tarheel
“Morisen Records has something on its hands with Charlotte, North Carolina-based band The Sammies” (more) The Daily Texan
“Charlotte's music scene is vibrant but in search of a catalyst to take it to the next stage.. Well, arousal should be on everyone's menu.” (more) Creative Loafing
You guys rocked the AC/DC at the Penguin's pig pickin!!! We had a great time at the show, thanks for heading home to Charlotte at long last. We can't wait to see you at the CD release party soon.
Just stopping by to let you know about the FREE SHOW we're putting on at the Neighborhood Theatre on July 11th. It's our only show in town this summer so we wanted to make it special, and what with the gas prices and all we figured what better way to throw a party than to just forget the price tag and get down! So come on out... we're going to have a great time, we'd love to show you how we've grown, it's a friday night, we've got two great bands playing with us, and hey... it's free!
Hope you're doing well, and we're looking forward to seeing you out on the 11th!
