Say it isn't so!!! Damn Damn Damn!!! So sorry to hear it's curtains for the Samples.
All of you have done an amazing job over the years. You've made Amazing music in
a maze of time. Your music has made my life so much richer and complete (or less
incomplete...or something like that). Thank you Thank you Thank you- All of you who
have stuck by the Samples throughout!
You guys played really great shows over here on the 45th parallel- Pacific side. I saw you in Portland, OR several times, and each show was a real inspiration. The last show I caught was a few years ago at Dante's- Great performance! I love all your more recent work as much as all your "classics". I've always felt that you are incapable of making songs that aren't instant classics- for me anyhow.
I'm a painter/ illustrator- not a musician. Your music has seeped in to my pictures. I can't even guess the number of days and nights your art has floated around my art. Anyway, I can't imagine making pictures without your music- however strange that may sound.
Please know how meaningful your music is and will always be for so many of us.
This world can be a real Bitch and Bastard to the best of us. Your music and spirit is a light
to help guide us through this darkness. Of coarse, you've known this for most of your life I'm
pretty sure. Just don't ever forget it!

Who I'd like to meet: Frequently asked questions for Sean
What is your favorite part about playing music?
"I love having the ability to express myself through my music.
It tends to be a real labor of love. It always blows me away when I walk away from a really great show and challenging myself to recreate that again the next night.
Sometimes I can have a really bad show but they seem to be far and few between.
When I do have a bad show however I usually just blow it off as odds and percentages."
Where are some of your favorite places to play?
"This question is usually the hardest one to answer. I have played so many places that it gets confusing sometimes. I have played almost every state except Hawaii, Alaska and maybe one of the Dakotas and from what I can remember they were all great shows even when I was down with the flu."
Do you ever get stage fright?
"Only when I get on stage and then it's gone after the first song."
Where was your best show?
"My best show was Red Rocks in Colorado 2007. We played very well that night and the crowd was unbelievable."
What other bands have you toured or played with?
"Lisa loeb, Blues traveler, Live, Counting Crows, DMB, Allman Brothers, Bruce Hornsby, Sting
Maroon 5, Chicago, Don McLane and many many more."
What do you charge for private shows?
"Because every show location is different it requires many factors to be included or excluded. Such as a PA system unless I use my own and the travel to get to the performance unless I am already in the area which always makes things easier. But of all the private shows that I have already performed over the last year they all went off without a hitch and the shows were fun as hell."
What's your favorite movie?
"When I was younger my mom ran the projector at the Manchester cinema in Manchester VT. I was able to see movies non stop for free and I took well advantage of that. This was long before VHS and of course DVD so the only way to see a movie more than once was to watch the same movies over and over at the cinema. I learned a lot about editing and a bit about movie productions and how it all worked from the film vantage point. I cannot tell you how many times I sat in the front row and watched close encounters, Cheech and Chong, grease, superman, King Kong, Billy Jack, The Bad news bears, The Jerk and many more, then our neighbors got HBO and that was the end of that. Then years later I watched cinema paradiso and it was very much like my cinema days without the fire.
In the end my favorite movie would have to be Harold and Maude."
What's your favorite book?
"Having major reading problems I unfortunately do not read that often.
I used to love books with pictures, preferably bird books."
What kind of guitars do you play?
"I have a martin 6 string acoustic and a 12 string alverez that I have had since I was 18.
I also have one six string Ibanez electric. "
When did you learn to sing?
"I learned to sing many years ago while playing open mikes in Burlington VT.
No better way to boost your confidence than to play to 15 drunks in a Smokey bar.
They were the best audience ever. They seemed to like anything that I would play."
When did you learn to play guitar?
"I taught myself when I was 16 or 17. My older brother had a banjo that never seemed to have all of its strings but I learned to play notes from that banjo until I got my first real guitar from a childhood friend."
What would you buy if you were a millionaire?
"I would buy one of my brothers a bionic leg.
Then I would probably get a car."
What's your favorite food?
"I love seafood I grew up on the water and my Hungarian grandfather was a sea warden so there was much seafood to eat from confiscated illegal catches.
Ironically many years later during The Samples earlier days Charles H and I got busted in cape cod because we were so broke we were catching clams to eat out in the murky clam beds and got detained by a sea warden after he realized that this was our only way to eat he let us keep our catch and continue digging."
What's your favorite drink?
"My favorite alcohol drink has and always will be tequila.
My favorite non alcohol drink is milk."
If you could sum up your life with one quote, what would it say?
"I did it my way"

"Boxers of course."
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
"Ernest Shakelton will always be my greatest inspiration next to my brothers, Mom, Dad and Granny. Even though Mom, Dad and Granny have gone on, they are still with me and my life decisions in every moment. They would have been beside themselves if they new how many people my music has touched."
What is most misunderstood about you?
"That all my songs are about specific experiences when in reality most of them I grab right out of thin air."
How many songs have you written and what is your songwriting process?
"I lost count but there are quite a few. I always write the music first and then the words just come to me."

After 22 years of touring and recording, Sean Kelly finds himself in the comfort of a loyal and dedicated fan base that have made his journey easy to justify and appreciate. I spoke to Sean recently in a candid interview discussing all the ups and downs of the pursuit of ones dreams and this is what he quoted. SK-“All I know is that I am very dedicated to the things I love. I have had such a great life filled with great friends. When I first started out when I was around 16 or 17 years old I knew that I would end up playing music in some capacity. What a great way to express yourself. What a great way to see our beautiful country. I am just a high school drop out with a degree in adventures. With all adventures you will eventually cross paths with darkness. I was very fortunate to surround myself with a loyal team of co musicians, road crew and a few representatives that have supported my music on tours and on the recordings.” MB-How many recordings have you produced? SK-“I believe that there must be over fifteen Samples CDs depending on what you consider a recording” MB- What has been your greatest memory or memories from your musical career including while on the road? SK- “Most all of them” “It’s been like nothing that I could explain in just a few minutes”.
MB- what are your current goals and aspirations? SK- “I am working on a solo CD that I am very exited to produce. I am looking for musicians in the southern California area who would like to help me out with this recording.MB- Will you be playing with a full band anytime soon? SK- “Absolutely! I am very exited to put a band together so that I can play electric guitar as well. I can put a band together in 10 minutes if the desire to have me perform is strong enough”
