About Samson & Delilah DEBUT ALBUM OUT NOW

Sam Lench and Anna Zweck are partners in life as well as in song and this is their debut album under their creative nom de plume Samson & Delilah. Influenced by stories and traditions new and old, the duo write songs of love and longing, truth and deceit, beauty and decay. The album tells the story not of their relationship per se but rather of where their lives intertwine. Lench has a background in indie-rock whilst Zweck is classically trained and this difference comes together to lend the album a rare breadth of style. From transcendental drone-folk and room-silencing a capella to uplifting songs of love across distance, 'Samson & Delilah' (LRR013) locates the exact point where Lench and Zweck's unspoken truths find a voice.
Since recording the album, several contributors have become full-time band members and the Samson & Delilah 5-piece band that will tour to support the album includes upright bass, flute, accordion, piano and drums in addition to Lench and Zweck.

SAMSON & DELILAH quotes

MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS
"A snug, warm blanket of a record, it weaves sumptuous folk arrangements with bucolic country-pop, stretching the nu-folk template in exciting and dynamic ways on a par with contemporaries like Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver."

GOD IS IN THE TV
"A band who can thread a range of European roots music together and make it sound unmistakeably theirs... a wonderfully well-woven record."

BEARDED
"A wholly charming debut [that] has an inherent, beautiful sadness to it."

CHANNEL 4 PLANETSOUND
"Like James Yorkston at his rowdiest... shows much promise."

BOOMKAT
"A beautiful tapestry that's redolent of classic '70s folk-rock fusion."

WEARS THE TROUSERS
"Hauntingly sparse folk music... has a remarkable, bell-like purity. Breathtaking."

CITY LIFE
"Recalls Arcade Fire after a country-folk makeover."

BBC MANCHESTER
"As sparkling as morning dew and just as tender, Samson & Delilah's eponymous album is a delicate flower of a record. There's restrained adventure at every turn and gentle joy by the bucket load to be found, all combining to make a well-considered and finely delivered debut."

DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY
"Few albums released in a time where typical MP3-focussed mastering has reached ridiculous sound-bending levels require as much diligent attention-giving as this introductory Samson & Delilah long-player, to pick out all the hidden detail. In effect, Lench and Zweck have made their seemingly passive presence demand almost aggressive concentration. Once inside this auditory head-space however, then the record peels back layer-upon-layer of rich features. This is a collection which glows strongly and imaginatively on its own terms."

MANCHESTER MUSIC
"Their self titled album is carefully orchestrated with acoustica, strings and brass but comes complete with an organic, natural sounding sense of performance. There are heavy, consciously depressed moments, that sit alongside perfect soundtracks for a summer's day. I don't think you'll hear a more impressive intro to a song than the harmonic chants of “And When The Rose”.

Grouper (US) has her latest – Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill – of three albums on Type Records. She has also been involved in collaborative releases, contributing a track to Xiu Xiu’s Remixed & Covered and four tracks to a split release with Inca Ore. Her other contemporaries are Belong, Growing, Tim Hecker, Windy & Carl and Atlas Sound.

Jasper TX (Sweden), with a hefty back-catalogue of releases on labels such as Miasmah, and collaborations with buddy Machinefabriek, is an essential domestic appliance in the household of conceptual music. He is comparable to artists Fennesz, Sigur Ros, Múm and Tape.

Intricate and atmospheric songsmith, Danny Saul (UK) performs with different combinations of musicians, making each gig a unique event. His forthcoming release is "Harsh, Final", and he also performs with Greg Haines as Liondialer.

Fieldhead (UK) music delights in tape hiss, bleak landscapes and decaying analogue loops. He is also a member of The Declining Winter and Glissando. His debut album, "They Shook Hands for Hours" is released soon on Home Assembly.

'And When The Rose' is really impressive. Thanks. And to repeat myself (I already mentioned to somebody else), I'm so impressed with the music coming out of Manchester. I think that's excellent.

Trespassers William (Seattle, US) are the duo of Matt Brown and Anna-Lynne Williams. "Subliminally sublime and pragmatically perfect, you would have to possess an ashtray for a heart not to feel this coursing through your soul" (DSD Music Magazine). A new EP, The Natural Order of Things, is set to be released on Gizeh Records. They will make a church performance with special guests.

Glissando (Sheffield, UK) “have the kind of atmosphere that can captivate and relax in equal measure- never before has tranquillity sounded so urgent. While track lengths of over 10 minutes may fail to hold the attention of the ADHD sufferers among us, with patience it plays like a majestic dream. And it's one you'll never want to wake up from." NME

Operations (Chris Anderson) is a Manchester based conceptual music producer and sound artist. He performs and records with an array of analog synths and effects, reel-to-reel tape and casette players, and guitars. Followers of Tim Hecker, Slowdive, Fennesz, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Stephen O'Malley, Type and 12K Records will surely nod in approval.
