Bio
San Diego Symphony was started in 1910 in San Diego. The Symphony performs over 100 concerts each season. In 2001 the Symphony performed with artists as varied as Yo-Yo Ma, Yes, and Charlotte Church. The Winter Pops series has featured Dave Brubeck, Tony winner Faith Prince and Broadway sensation Brian Stokes Mitchell. John Williams, composer of several Oscar-winning movie scores gave a special benefit concert in February of 2007. This year, the Symphony celebrates 100 years and will present star studded lineup of guest artists including cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianist Lang Lang, violinist Gil Shaham, vocalist Brian Stokes Mitchell and The Temptations! The San Diego Symphony performances include the Jacobs Masterworks Series; the Winter Pops series as well as annual holiday programs; and a Family Festival series led by our new conductor Philip Mann. SYMPHONY EXPOSED is another exciting series hosted by music expert Nuvi Mehta who gives insight into the composer's life and music all in one hour. From July through September, the Symphony presents a highly popular outdoor Summer Pops season on the waterfront, with such guests as Burt Bacharach, Chris Botti, and Frank Sinatra, Jr. For more information about any of these series, to watch our video podcasts by commentator Nuvi Mehta, and much more, visit the San Diego Symphony website. During the winter season, the Symphony performs in downtown's Symphony Hall, built in 1929 as a French Rococo style luxury movie theater and conferred to the Symphony in 1984. Downtown's Symphony Towers with an AT&T logo at the top (the second tallest building in San Diego County) was built around Symphony Hall in 1989. Symphony Hall is a city landmark and the finest music venue in town. San Diego Symphony is on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. .. .. -
