GET SAW TRACKS FOR YOUR SONG!

We have a service for composers who record outside of NYC and wish to have a musical saw track: We have a home studio. You send us an MP3 of the song minus the saw part and a separate MP3 with all the tracks including the saw part (played on whatever instrument) or sheet music (PDF) of the saw part. We will record the saw in our studio, e-mail you a sample MP3 and if it's to your liking we will finish recording and mail you an unprocessed WAV file of the saw track for you to layer over your other tracks.

NATALIA PARUZ - the 'Saw Lady'
NATALIA.....
affectionately known as the 'Saw Lady', has spent over a decade bringing the rare art form of playing music on a carpenter's saw to audiences around the world.

She performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, with the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Air Moroccan Symphony Orchestra and at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall with PDQ Bach composer Peter Schickele and with the Little Orchestra Society.

Television appearances include FOX (Good Day New York), ABC (Good Morning America), MTV (Andy Milonakis Show), VH1 (Behind the Music), History Channel (Tool Box).
Film appearances include 'Dummy' with Adrian Brody. Natalia's saw can be heard on the soundtracks of films such as El Carnaval Sodoma/Arthuro Ripstein and American Carny.
Radio performances include NPR (A Prairie Home Companion), XM Satelite Radio & WBAI.

Natalia received citations of honor from the New York City Council, the New York State Senate and a medal of honor from Paris, France.

She was chosen by Time Out New York, the Village Voice, the New York Press and the New York Resident for their Best of New York lists, and was featured in articles by the New York Times, theBoston Globe and Metro New York.

Natalia has recorded on Capitol Records, Universal Records and Atlantic Records with such artists as John Hiat.

Natalia's goal is not only to preserve the rare art form of playing music on a saw, but to also try and push it forward through the invention of better playing technique, fine-tuning the instrument, educating composers about the possibilities of composing for saw, and bringing the instrument to public awareness. This last part, bringing the instrument into public awareness, she does not only through performances on the legitimate stage/TV/radio but also by bringing the music of the musical saw directly to people where people are - on the street. By performing in the subway she brings the art form to people who might not otherwise be able to encounter it.

cover Hark! An Angel Sings
Eclectic arrangements of Christmas favorites featuring the ethereal sound of the musical saw, the angelic sound of English Handbells and the rustic sound of pitched Alpine & American cowbells. Arrangements by composer Scott R. Munson who's music has been featured on MTV, Bravo, The WE Channel, CNN, XM Satellite Radio, etc.
'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' from this CD won 'Best Song' on NPR's 'All Songs Considered'.
Two new Christmas Carols! 'Christmas Morning' and 'Peace on Earth'.

(read reviews) Natalia Paruz not only plays the saw beautifully (the idea of playing a carpenter’s saw seems funny, but the sound itself is haunting), she’s also a terrific musician. This recording displays the carols in new and refreshing settings.

Composer Peter Schickele (aka PDQ Bach)
.................................................................................................... ................
The musical saw numbers are particularly striking.
Amazing and quite musical in the expressiveness she was able to get from a tableful of bells. Brava!

Pulitzer Prize winning composer William Bolcom
.................................................................................................... .................
"I did enjoy playing your lovely CD. Will listen to it again at the holidays. You've a lovely talent."

Blyth Danner, actor
.................................................................................................... ...................
"I listened to the CD and it’s very fun... Natalia Paruz is a virtuoso of the musical saw. The CD has in fact an angelic quality. The universe has some amazing things in it besides electricity - it has the musical saw."
Janet Coleman, host of the WBAI Radio show Cat Radio CafÈ

Hi Natalia - thank you so much!
Really I didn't know that the saw is played by so many people, played by you - I have seen the video on youtube. I was watching for Hamburg - things - Originals - and so I came to you.

Here we say: Die singende Säge...

There was a woman - but she was years ago older, so I think she won't play now. She played in the public streets of Hamburg - you know: she was a Original.

How can I explain: If somebody lives in the part of town in which you are living too, and she had sold her whole life very good tasting Hot dogs, with a little waggon - and she can tell stories: funny, tragedy, stupid... stories, maybe about people who buy her hot dogs. She is an Original - there is noone else like her!

You know the film, I always forget the actors name: he played in Das Piano - in another film he had a tobacco shop maybe in New York? And in that shop so many people met and he knew so many stories: an Original too.

And Hans Albers is an Hamburg Original too. A very famous one.

Many people maybe will forget the singing saw, had forgotten her - I remembered her from time to time - and now life comes into my thoughts.

I love the playing.

Have a good time.

Wow! saw playing witch! I should try that as a costume sometime.
I had a busy Hallowe'en. It was great. Played with both my bands -one on the trumpeter/guitarists porch for the trick or treaters then at midnight at a really crowded club with the other band.
Hope you have a great holiday season!

thanks Natalia, your music is an inspiration! you really do make a saw sound like an ethereal voice, incredible!

by the way, maybe you could offer some advice? i have a bahco sandvikens stradivarius, it has a notably baritone range, is there any saw you would recommend for getting a higher register?

thanks in advance!

all the best! Kieran

Thanks for the request, hope my recommendations met with your approval! Your saw playing is terrific - I'm still very much at the "making vaguely tuneful wailing sounds" stage, I'm afraid.
Cheers
Johnny.

Heyy,
thanks to your quick how-tos on youtube, i went straight to my dad's garage and picked out a rusty 20" handsaw (unfortunately the longest i could find!) and blasted out a few ghost noises. Your vibrato technique with the knee really works well. haha i'm havin loads of fun :)

Hi Natalia, the only thing Kim and I didn't like about the festival was that we never got to talk with you. Other than that, it was AMAZING, and we hope we can come back next year, too. Thanks so much for all that you do for the musical saw!

Be well,

No, I play guitar and a bit of piano. I think the saw is a fascinating instrument. The timbre is so haunting and beautiful. Quite striking really, and you clearly play it very well. It sounds like you could play just about anything on it.

Hi Natalia!! I just prepare a documentary about elli Deliou with all the details of the history of the Saw and her life. The truth for that handle ( i love it) is that is from 1860. Every teacher remake one for his student. You can realize that the history of the musical saw in Europe starts near to the start of the 1800 - 1800 something because Elli is the 3d generation student and my teacher now. Believe me that the classical technique of the saw is defferent from our technique mostly at the baw and the sensitiveness. We have a lot of videos and recordings and news letters from her. I try to make a myspace site for the start. If you hear her playing you will love her.
