The band was formed and led by guitarist and songwriter, Greg Fain. Other key members of the band included Jon Monck (bass, vocals, toasting), Scott Morris (drums), P.J. Gorenc (lead vocals), Paul Arbogast (trombone), and Matt Hetzler (saxophone).
Influences
The Scatologists, although firmly within the ska genre, had a sound heavily influenced by 1970's funk. Key influences would be:
The Specials
Frank Zappa
The Scofflaws
Fishbone
James Brown
The Clash
Bob Marley
The Scatologists were formed in 1994 by ex-Ruder Than You guitarist/songwriter, Greg Fain. He assembled some of the most talented musicians that the University of Delaware and its surrounding town of Newark have ever heard. Their trademark "funky ska" packed local and regional venues throughout the 1990's. Blistering energy and good-times party atmosphere were the hallmarks of this band.
The band parted in 1999, but reappeared for a reunion on Halloween weekend 2002, for an incredibly vibrant show at the East End Cafe in Newark, Delaware.
